Full Version: Laser Pricing

I am new here and after reviewing some of the threads, I am seeing that alot of people are charging by the minute for laser engraving. We have been doing laser engraving here for about 13 years. We have found that charging by the square inch of the laser area works out the best. We charge anywhere from $.75 per sq.in. to $1.00 per sq. in. You have to be sensible when using this technique. Something small like a name tag or 2 inch disc with a logo, we usually charge a minimum of $5.00. Always include set-up charges (usually $25.00 1 time) in your price. I use 2 Laser systems all day long almost everyday, and charging by the minute, IMO, is too cheap. Charging by the square inch eliminates guessing on run time.

If you have a setup charge, then things tend to work out better.

A square inch charge works well, normally based on the laser time to do it. I have calculated that charge many times and just cannot remember what it is till I finish calculating, then the number looks very familiar. :-$

Is that for outside dimensions regardless of how much info is being lasered??

It is the inside parameter of the art area.
Again, you have to use your judgement in some cases. If you know that you are lasering something that you know will not have a long run time, then set your price accordingly. If you know it's a lot of stuff being lasered, then definately go by the sq. in. of art area. Getting a set-up charge will make up for any miscalculations you may have made.
