Full Version: Keeping laserable plastic flat

I have some rowmark engravable plastic that is not laying flat on the laser bed. It has a slight bow. Does anyone know of a trick or something I could do to get the plastic to lay flat.

As always thanks for the help.

Cindy

Place a sheet of thin steel on your laser bed, then use small round magnets used for badge findings to hold your material down on this sheeting. If you use one in the center, you will need to account for it in your layout.

You could use low-tack trophy tape as well.

Cindy,

I have trouble occasionally with plastic bowing, and I always use a strip of low-tack tape (as Dave suggested).

Sometimes the tape is reusable from one sheet to the next...

I tried using duck tape. Duck tape fixes everything right...... I still had issues so I called a friend of mine that ownes a steel company and he said to come by this afternoon and he would fix me up with a sheet of steel.

Thanks Cindy

Use a small piece of 2/way tape.

Cindy,
be aware that if you are cutting thru the plastic there may be more mess and not as good a cut, than if you have the honeycomb
(which I assume you started with, and thats why its not sitting flat).
With sheet steel you will find if the power/speed is wrong the plastic melts and the residue sits on the steel requiring clean up, if you get the settings perect to pop out the badges then it's not an issue. But I have had more than one lot of icky to clean off the backs.

regards Clive.

Thanks for the reply. I did get a piece of flat steel and it works great so far. I cut out some tags this morning and my power and speed was good so it worked out fine.

Thanks Cindy
