Full Version: Product idea, or just showing off

My mother turns 75 in a few days, and rather than send her a cake with 75 candles, which the fire marshalls would probably frown on, I decided to make her something on the laser.

This was fairly simple to do and I thought I'd post it as an idea that some of you can offer to customers wanting something special for weddings, graduations, etc... Nothing too original, but I think it looks nice, and was very simple to make

My mother graduated college last year (at 74) so this is a combination birthday and graduation present.

I engraved and cut a piece of cherry about 6" tall with her image and an outline traced around it, with a flat lower edge. I made a simple "plate holder" type of stand from 2 pieces of 1/8" birch ply. I stained the ply before sending it, which you can see in the first photo, but the images of just the stand were take before staining.

Dave,
One very unique and AMAZING piece of work. Good job.

Now all I have to do is hone my photo engraving skills.

Thanks for sharing.

Dave..

What a great gift!! I think it turned out great..

My mom, who is 65, is also going to college.. Hopefully she'll graduate so I can make something like this for her!

Thanks for the idea, and happy birthday mom!
