Full Version: Laser to Laser printing....

Greetings all,
How do I print something on my laser printer then cut it out on my laser engraver? This sounds like a simple thing to do but when I try it, the laser cuts around the image off center.

Here is what I am trying to do...I have a customer who would like business cards that look like stamps (she is an automated bulk mail provider) I would like to print the cards on the laser and use the engraver to put the ruffly stamp edge on it.

I would've thought just setting the dimensions to 8.5 x 11 and printing the same file but with just the hairline to cut out the cards would do it.

What am I doing wrong?
Thanks
Becky

Becky,

What happens is the laser printer is shrinking the image slightly it is due to the heat that dries the laser toner.

What we do is place a couple of crop marks into the Laser print file just a + works.

Then bring it to the laser cutter and use your red diode pointer to locate the center of the crop marks.

Adjust the file in corel and test the cuts with the crop marks once they are lined up you should be good to go.

I just had that problem and then did it the hard way, really the easier way.

Printers do not pull the paper through perfectly.

Put a crosshair at the upper left corner of the printed image, and another one vertically near the bottom. Copy everything to a second page and move everything as a group so the upper crosshair to the top left corner of the page. Then ungroup. Be sure not to print the crosshairs to the laser.

Using the red dot pointer align it centered on the top cross hair. Move down vertically only to the second one and line up the piece without moving the top crosshair. Move the pointer straight up to the center of the top crosshair again, and reset the laser's origin.

That will give perfect alignment.

(I finally got that as the only way on the fourth try. Arrrg.)

Harvey-
Thanks I will give that a try!
BTW, is the forum back to a crawl this morning or is it just me? I'm not complaining, just wanting to make sure it's not our network.
Have a great day!

I am glad I used the Ink Jet instead of my Laser. I recently cut new cards for out multi-line phones. I never thought about the distortion on the Laser. I just wanted a pretty color picture. I had 44 internal cuts, then cut the perimiter. It worked out really well. Anybody need a template for Avaya phones?
