In a previous jury duty I explained that I was a one-man operation with a retail storefront and that it would place a major financial burden on me to close down for an extended period of time. The judge explained that jury duty was our civic responsibility and that everyone sacrifices in one way or another to fulfill that duty. I argued (using that term loosely) a bit longer until I was finally put in my place. :@
The plaintiff in the case I was assigned to ended up being one of my larger clients. I mentioned that fact and soon become an unattractive option as a juror.

David,
I noticed that the once-popular excuses (to get out of serving) weren't working for the majority of people.
School teachers were told to call the school and inform them they'd need substitutes for the period of their duty.
If I hadn't been given a pass, I would have done my part.
Maybe the judge determined he didn't need a wise-ass on the panel. :-)
I'd actually like to serve on a jury. It would just have to be limited to a few days or a week, tops.

On the summons to jury duty Harv received it asked if you were self-employed.
