Full Version: Laser engraving black stone price quote

Hi All,
I have a potentially new customer who needs 40 4"x4" bases engraved. 20 are wood and 20 are black stone as her e-mail describes it. All she needs is her e-mail(about 20 characters) lasered on each. The faces are also tapered. I've never lasered stone before. Does it engrave well and can it be color filled. Since they are tapered I probably will need to make a jig. She needs me to quote her a price. Anybody have input on a fair price. Should I charge a setup fee.
Thanks,
Tony

Tony,

Not all stone is created equal.

"Black Stone" won't tell you much, in terms of engravability.

Before quoting, I'd be more inclined to run a piece, to see if color-filling, multiple passes or any other special handling will be necessary.

Thanks Dave. Probably a good idea.

Tony,

Just the voice of experience, after bidding too low, far-too-often, without knowing all the details.

Customers can sometimes tend to lead us down the path, making it sound like an easy slam dunk, without any knowledge of what we're up against.
