Full Version: Reverse Laser Engraving

Hello Gang- Can someone help me with this problem? This is driving me crazy not being able to figure it out. I have Corel X3 and a Xenetech laser. I want to end up with a "reverse engraving". This is the problem that I am having. In Corel, I start with a 3"square page size. Then add a letter. In this case a capital M. Center it on the page. Then draw a square or rectangle ( both work ) around the letter. Make the outline of the square 2 pt. thickness ( so my Xenetech recognizes it as raster). I then send it to my laser, select the option "invert raster" and it works as I want. That is the letter ends up raised and the engraved area is only the square immediately around the letter and not the full 3" square page as designed on. But......I cannot do the same with a circle, ellipse or any polygon around the letter. What happens is that the entire 3" square page size will engrave with the circle or ellipse being raised as well as the letter. I am stuck. What am I missing? What I am doing wrong?? Thanks. BTW, Hope everyone enjoys Vegas. My wife and I were able to go last year for the first time and it was great!! Can't attend this year but hopefully things work out so we can go next year. Would like to meet all of the fine people on this forum. -Jim H. Amazing Engraving

Jim,
I'm by no means an expert, but what I've done in the past is this: Draw you circle or whatever around your item. Fill the circle with black, Fill your letter with white, then send to your engraver normal (don't invert). This works good for me.
