Full Version: EE Name Badge Curiosity

I'm curious to know how many of you wearing the EE name badge were approached on the show floor as to what it was. I remember last year after the show there was a surge of new members. I imagine part of that had to do with the badges.

David,

I was fielding many questions as to how the badges were made and who made them.

Since they were being distributed at the Coast Graphic Supply (CGS) booth, some people were under the impression that CGS produced the badges.

Epoxy doming is still a mystery to many people and I plan to do a tutorial on the "Anatomy of an EE name badge."

I'll let others answer if the badges had an effect in prompting people to ask about the site, but I can say much of my time on the show floor was spent making contacts with manufacturers, suppliers and other forms of media in bringing their attention to what they agreed is a win-win for all involved.

David,
I did not have anyone come up to me and ask, but it was a great ice breaker in talking about the forum.

One person saw the badge and said he had talked to me yesterday.....but I think he had me confused with David. How the heck he could do that I don't know.

I could not say that I had anybody come up and ask me about the forum from the name badges - I did have a couple ask after I referred to engraving forum during the Laser Solutions Clinic. During the Clinic I could not be specific about the forum - we were ask not to use specific companies etc during the clinic. - but afterward I gave them David L. 's card for the forum. I also talked with several companies that I felt might make a great addition to our forum. One of those was a new company to me - they sell specific products for working with acrylic. Craftics from New Mexico - www.craftics.com. They said they would be checking us out. They seem to have a nice selections of hard to find products for working with Acrylic.

On Friday night a group of us got to talk with some of the New Hermes folks who were eating in the same restaurant - Dee took the lead in getting them to commit to a presence on the forum. Dee is so shy. ;-)

By the way Gravograph (New Hermes) had the nicest booth setup I can remember ever seeing at a trade show. They won 1st price for the best Mega Booth and well deserved. They had lots of engravers of every shape and size as well as a nice display of there products. Quite impressive.
(I do not work for NH nor do I own any of their equipment - but they deserved the win for best booth)

Joe,

I have noticed that Gravograph is slowly attempting to get their service levels up to the level of the equipment they sell. Maybe their parent company, Castle Harlan, is using some of their service experience from the other industries they are invested in. It's interesting to see how diversified they are. http://www.castleharlan.com/portfolio/default.html

David - I agree with your assessment. We buy some of our engravable plastics from Gravograph and their service has improved over the last couple of years. The sales reps at the show were knowledgable and helpful. Their booth was beautiful.

Hello David,
Having worked at the Coast Graphic Supply booth introducing another technology, I can verify that they (CGS) had many people coming by to ask about the doming. Several mentioned the fact about the EngravingEtc badges being domed.

David,
I'm wondering if there is any way I can get one of the badges. I had planned to attend but it was not to happen this year. I will send payment to cover the badge, shipping and your time, just let me know how much and where to send it.
Thanks,
Bill

Bill,

With you being the person who designed our logo, I refuse to let you pay a dime for a badge.

I may make it a requirement that you wear it to Las Vegas in 2008 though. :-)

Please let me know what name and company name you'd like to appear on the badge.

Got a lot of compliments on the namebadges.

David,

Yes, I spoke to Jim after the show Friday and he said there was definitely an interest in learning to epoxy dome.

People would ask where I got the badges. Somehow, they couldn't believe I made them myself.

I think that's a testament to how professionally-done an epoxy dome makes a product look.

Couldn't possibly be done by a garage operator. :-)

Thank you for taking time from your hectic Pictaflex demo action to hand badges out to our friends.

Chuck,
I hope I had a rumor that at some point David is going to do a tutorial on dooming. ;-)

A tutorial on "dooming"? That would be depressing. :P

David-
Unfortunately for you, you are now "saddled" with the lifetime responsibility for EE namebadges 8-O

Much like Chuck is "saddled" with MC/party planning duties...

You guys are just tooo good...no one wants to even attempt follow in your footsteps... ;-)

Sometimes it pays to be a slacker :D

I thought the namebadges were gorgeous and can't wait for the tutorial on doming!!

I had a few compliments on them and happily passed out the EE info for people to become members.

Thanks again David
Becky

I had a couple of people ask me and I gave them the web address, so hopefully they will follow through and keep growing the ranks.

Like many of you, I'm running triage on my engraving business, trying to sort out where I left off before the Vegas trip.

Once I have the natives calmed down (they're a little restless) I'll show how the badges were made.

Since I didn't get to go to Vegas, can you post a picture so I can see this years name badges?
