We missed you at the party. I didn't know what had happened to you and I'm sorry to hear you were struggling with a bad back. :<

Chris,
I understand.......same here. I don't know that Lisa will want to go again. We were just talking about it....she did have fun, but she is not that interested either, so you are not alone my friend.
Either way, I am sorry you were not feeling good and ended up missing it. BUT the good news is NEXT YEAR ( 358 and a half days from today, Monday) will be even better......
I hope you are feeling better.

Tell Lisa that I demand that she come. She helped make a few evenings very enjoyable. Great sense of humor and a fun person to be with.
If we did not need you for an MC, you could send her and you stay home. (devil)

You just want me to say that we need you as the MC again.
Don't you?
Don't you? Huh?
I'll play your game. :/

Chris - I feel bad that you missed the party. I saw you on Wed evening at the Laser Solutions Clinic but never again after that. You asked one of the questions at clinic - didn't you? If had known your situation I would have worked something out with you to get you there and find a spot for your van.
Stuntman - next year we need a network system to be sure that nothing like this happens again and no one falls through the cracks. I really feel bad about this.

I agree !!
Tell Lisa to come next year. It was super nice to meet her.
Here is an Idea. I realize that some of the women are not too much interested in the show itself ( that includes Leslie). So, how about if these women spend some times together going to hotels look around, shop, gamble, chat and just have plain fun. In the evening we could get together at the party.
Just a thought
Hope you have a wonderful day

Rolf,
Great idea! If I nab myself a boyfriend between now and next year's show, I'll send him sightseeing & shopping with the women! :O)

The times my wife and daughter have come to Las Vegas with me, they don't attend the show itself, but enjoy sightseeing and shopping while I'm at the trade show.
I'd suggest that the "Awards Widows" get together during the day and rejoin the rest of us for the nightlife. :-)

The only network system I can think of is exchanging cell phone numbers, for those comfortable with doing so.
As you said, if we knew Chris was having trouble getting to the party, we surely could have worked something out with him.

Janette,
The 'right' man might just like the whole shopping thing.
You never know what special beautiful thing he might find just for you.
;-)
Was really nice to see you, even though we did'nt get to chat with each other. You are as beautiful as ever!! :-$
Hope you have a wonderful day

David,
This would be something to look into when the next show gets a little closer. Maybe this would be an incentive for some wifes to join their hubbies to come to Vegas and have some girltime out.
Hope you have a wonderful day

Absolutely! We'll let it be known that wives, girlfriends, kids etc. will be able to get together for non-award-related activities.
That may require another list altogether. :-)

Joe,
I agree entirely. I am happy to make sure that all attendees have my cell phone next year for instances like this......but I understand what Chris means. I have been in similar situations and sometimes it is just best to get horizontal......

OK, here's my 2 cents worth...I won't be embarrassed if you send back the entire 2 cents!
First, it sounds like the best reason for attending ARA this year was, the party. We've heard so little of what went on, on the floor...was there a show?
Second, If "first" is true...why not plan a party in a friendlier city, without the distraction of ARA. I know this concept was talked about last year, maybe even two years ago now...still a valid concept that needs to be renewed.
Third, If we are significant others to join us, we must plan activities for them. On past meetings, shows, conventions that I have attended with my wife, there were specific spouse outing planned, ie, shopping, sight seeing, spa day, skeet shooting, deep sea fishing, golf...all depended on where the meeting was. It made the enire event more of a vacation with learning.

Doug,
I probably didn't see as much of the show as others, because I was "campaigning" for the site and consequently made some excellent contacts.
I do have some things to say about the show, which I thought, despite what some are saying about its size and attendance, was well worth attending.
I'm trying to get by "business bearings" back after the trip, although there's a backlog of things I'll bring up in the very near future.
That's the point of Engraving Etc. Live! which will be educational events with a social aspect. There are plenty of areas of the country (world) that don't have access to ARA-style educational events and that's a gap I think we can fill.
A "vacation with a learning curve" is exactly the way I see these events being a success. We can rely on the "locals" to present what they see as the points of interest for the non-engraving-related visitors, as well as those who want to see the local sights.
I would count myself in on that group. :-)
