I received the dreaded MS Publisher file today. I requested another format from this customer and this is all they have. If anyone has MS Publisher, could you be so kind as to open this file and take as large a screen shot as you can and e-mail it to me at davidz (at) expressionsengravedz (dot) com. (remove the z's)

David,

In the trial version I have of MS Publisher it looks like it is possible for the file to be saved as a pdf. Did your customer get the file from someone else or did they create it?
I asked MS why the trial version has all the toolbars grayed out and unusable but the reply was a non-answer. I told them it was like expecting me to look in the windows of a new car and deciding to buy it without ever trying any of the features. The reply to that comment was to download it and try it. It looks like MS Publisher could be a good program but for $500 I'll stick with Corel. Odd they don't support importing pub files.

Wow! Check out this link! And look at the attached file created from that link. Oh, at 748KB, you probably need to delete it ASAP.

Uh, oh! Better read the fine print.

Important information about this PDF:
- Reduced Image Resolution
- Hyperlinks in MSWord document are not converted
- Fonts are not embedded nor subsetted
- PDF Metadata (indexable by Google) is empty

Interesting. I sent over my problem file and it was converted in less than a minute. Only problem was a loss in resolution. The resulting pdf when imported into Corel was almost 2000 curves and one of the images suffered quite a bit. But for that I was pretty impressed. I have bookmarked the site.

Thanks,

Yes, and make sure you read the disclaimer in the e-mail.

It's not the best solution, but if you are pressed for time, it might a third-best solution. As always, it's probably a good idea, if you can, to get a JPG or fax from the customer to verify the translation.

That's the worst case of "the pot calling the kettle black" if I've ever heard one!
