Full Version: Equipment Raffle

This person, who would be holding the raffle, is aware of these issues and is looking in to all aspects with his professional team (lawyer/accountant types) to make sure this raffle, should it proceed, is on the up & up.

I find the idea interesting, and would buy at least one ticket if the raffle is presented on this forum. I know the person, know the condition level of equipment and how it was used, and know that this person takes very good care of his machinery. He simply wants to move on to a new career and this seemed a way to liquidate that would end up being a win/win situation.

This type of raffle has been done with houses and whole towns successfully, so there must be some type of lottery exceptions. I look forward to hearing more about this, and hope this person can work out this issue and answer any questions.

Cindy,

Thank you for vouching for the credibility of the person with the equipment.

I wouldn't have entertained the idea of running the (proposed) raffle through this site, if it in any way felt like a scam.

Naturally, if we do this, I'll make myself ineligible.

I seriously doubt if you could get enough takers to make it work.

Could be. Who knows?

I'd be interested for at least 1 ticket, if not more.

I don't see why you would need to be ineligible. In this situation, I don't believe you would be the winning ticket draw-er. It is my understanding, and I could be wrong here, but I thought this person told me that he was having his accountant or lawyer do that part so there was no doubt of the winner. So you should be able to buy as many tickets as you want and not have any conflict of interest problems. It isn't your fault you are the moderator/owner of this site and that should not make you ineligible. Just my opinion of course. I just don't see why there would be a problem with you buying any amount of tickets you want.

I know this machinery, and I know the money will be held in escrow and returned if all the tickets are not sold, so I'm not hesitant to buy a ticket for this raffle at all. I might buy more than one!

Cindy,

No matter how above-board the transaction, if I were to win the raffle, there would be no way to convince some people that the "fix wasn't in."

It's not a door I want to open. >.<

David,

I understand completely where you are coming from and how you feel about it. Especially having gotten to know you better recently.

However, I agree with Cindy. You are just as eligible as anyone to participate.....if there is an outside source handling the raffle, ( independent judges if you will) the forum is only one of many possible advertising venues.

There is no conflict of interest.

Chuck,

We still don't know how much interest there will be in this raffle, should its legality/feasibility be determined.

Winning the wood products from Big Sky Woodcrafters, in Las Vegas, still has me feeling as though someone else should have won that door prize.

Everyone has their comfort zone. Mine, is in seeing someone else win such prizes.

Well, that was a factor. :-)

Even though everyone, including myself, paid their own way to the party, I looked at the Beach Party as more of a "customer appreciation" event.

I'll be putting those wood products to good use, in making some samples for my upcoming Coast Graphic Supply presentation.

Once they're complete, I'll post some photos for everyone to see.

As I said when I went to draw for someone who was not there, "I cannot draw my own card." With that I did, and dropped it back into the ice bucket and drew again. I feel guilty for winning the poker chip later on.

It is the members that make this forum great, and the members that made the 'Son of a Beach Party' great also. I felt like I was stealing a prize from one of our members.

Stop already......it's a party. We are ALL eligible. You paid. You play. Your card was in. Nex time I'll get Ed McMahon or someone from publishers clearing house......... ( insert laugh here).

I understand where you are coming from and appreciate your feelings. Only you can make the final determination if the raffle ends up happening.

If we took a vote up front about whether the moderators are eligible, I'll bet it would be resoundingly a yes, but again, only you guys can decide if you want to participate.

At least when you won the Big Sky prize in Vegas you could drive it home instead of someone having to ship it! Sounds like that prize went to just the right person.

David:

How many tickets would have to be sold to make it go? If it's 200, that's a lot.

Mike,

I don't know what the person has set as a "reserve" amount.

Probably less than 200 tickets.

I suspect people interested in this prospect would buy more than one ticket.

I only mentioned two of many items up for grabs. I don't have a full listing, but a Millennium direct printer (color name badges & small signs) is another piece of equipment.

From what I understand, all equipment has been meticulously maintained and in the case of the Xenetech machine, there will be a factory certification, as to its excellent condition.

Harvey, after what you did a few years ago when you won the door prize at the ORIGINAL Beach Party...know one could doubt your ethics.

Now if Dee would just do the same with the camera......

Please do not hold your breath. She is still constantly reminding me about how excited she is. She now actually takes good pictures. I had gotten her a SLR through the lens camera because she was always cutting off heads. I figured that if she could see it framed she would know hat she was getting, wrong. I just gave up that she did not see the image except in her mind.

With this camera with the rear screen, all have been good so far. Just had to find the right unit I guess.
