I would start by saying that is the wrong tool for the job, regardless of the software. Photos should be left to sublimation, then laser engravers, respectively.

I am sure to some degree that the Roland could engrave a photograph, but the efficiency of that process would make it cost prohibitive. There wouldn't be much of a market to pay the price that would need to be charged to make it profitable.

Thousands of customers have purchased Roland's MPX60's and MPX70's for Photo Impact Engraving. The Metaza market is still going very strong. The Metaza printers work with software from www.eimimage.com (Dr. Metaza).

Other than sublimation, direct printing can also be used at a far lower cost.

David,

For smaller items the Metaza is an option. I was thinking of larger images when he mentioned the mechanical engraver in his original post.

Harvey did a Metaza photo for me on some dogtags. They turned out very, very nice.

I'm curious to find out if the owner who started this thread (EGX300) knows of the Dr. Engrave 2D software for that Engraving machine. I'm sure users on here can tell him about this software.

Hi David ... I tried in vain to do some 2D engraving with the software that comes with my EGX300 but it kept saying it wouldn't handshake with the software and machine. I tried calling Roland's support but gave up on that as well. It is a good economical machine but support is saddly missing. :-(

I use corel X3 (trace and draw).
Can I find something better?
