Full Version: Simulated Plaques

Dave,

Joe has lasered a veneer PDU plaque that looked great. The center is MDF & it has a real walnut veneer. We stained the engraving & you could not tell it was a simulated plaque, because the outer veneer is walnut. We don't laser the traditional simulated plaques that I can think of. It's PDU product Step 'N Roll-Veneer Finish, various sizes starting with a 6x8. So it's higher than simulated but cheaper than solid walnut.
And my PDU book is falling apart! When do they send out new ones?

David,

I will second Cody's suggestion of using Continental's Royal Walnut simulated boards. I do these all of the time.

I use vinyl application tape and laser thru then color fill with shoe polish or Folk Art paints. I have one customer that uses 5 colors on each board. I have never had a Continental plaque ruined by the masking or the paint. The other brands of simulated plaques will lift the finish off.

hth,

Thank you John. I'll give Continental a try.

We have lasered the veneer plaque's with no color fill. Depends on what the customer likes. Contrast is not an issue.

PDU Books - I talked to the rep Friday at the show and he told me that they will be coming out later this summer because (drum roll please) they are lowering their prices and didn't have enough merchandise stocked up to fill orders, so they are going to wait to put out the catalog until they are stocked up.

PDU Books or PDU Magazines, what are you referring to? :S I haven't heard of that product.

PDU is a supplier of trophy parts as well as other materials for the awards industry.

I knew the PDU part. It was the "Books" part that I was not familiar with.

David,

I believe they were talking about a new "Master" catalog to be sent out to replace the 2005 catalog.

:O)

I take complete comfort in knowing that the forum members here would NEVER take advantage of me when in such a weak and vulnerable moment. :-$
