Full Version: Line on photo

Hello Everyone,
I just did a photo on a dog tag, and I have a line on it that I do not know how to get rid of.
It looks like it's the side of the photo, but I took the background out of it. I do not know why the right side of photo is coming into a line, but the rest of it isn't.
This has happened to me on occasion and it has been that I had left some of the picture. I cropped it out, and that took care of it, but this one isn't doing that.
I have used this photo before on a larger piece with not problem. Unless it's the border, I have no idea how to get it out of there.
If anyone has a solution, please advise me. >.<
Thanks,
Barbara

Good old Corel Draw, probably version 9.

If you have not yet, resample the image to be just about the same size you are using, with the following alterations.

Use a convenient DPI for the laser, 300, 500, 600, whatever matches your laser. At the same time reset the size so the number of pixels in the width is divisible by 4. (Bet it has a remainder of 3 at the current setting, maybe 2.) Corel seems to take it in in 4 pixel chunks and leaves the extra there in the image.

If you then get a line down the center, Corel 9 before all of the upgrades did it, using Draw make the width one pixel smaller. If it is at 500 DPI subtract .002" form the width (1/500).

That should get you going.

I assume that the Laser Pro is not a ULS machine?

You may have to zoom way in on your image to see the line. In many paint programs there is a thin border around the image you are working on and you might not notice a thin line on the very edge of the image until you try to zoom in on it.

Harvey,
I truly appreciate your help. You are just so knowledgeable that I can't relate to your advice. I am very young at this, and all that I do is change the size of the photo and work with that.
I downsized it and put it into photograv, and then into corel X3
I ran it, and got the line.
I then went back to see if I could crop it out, but that did not work.
I then went back into coreldraw and used the eraser to try and get it out even though I could not see it there. That seemed to do it, but then I had some kind of weird thing going on instead of the line.
I quit working on it for today. I will try again tomorrow.
thanks for the help though.
Barbara

Post the file, preferably in Corel 9. Also let me know the laser DPI that you are using to engrave the item.

I will try to alter it for you and post it back to you.

ok Harvey,
Here is the photo. It in not the photograv one, it's the origianal photo that I sized to fit the dog tag. I saved it in version 7
Thank you ,
Barbara

I need the original file that you used in Corel to send out the image. (I hope it is in Corel, I am not familiar with other programs.)

I can alter the image in that file and send the file back to you.

Harvey,
The file is right above the dog tag attachment.
Thanks

Hi Barb

I believe that you have a Laserpro, I have a Pinnicle Mercury and this is what I found on the Signwarehouse site.

Why does my laser engraver engrave lines on images even though they are not visible in the software?

SolutionThis is usually caused by improperly cropping and image or the brightness and contrast of the image are slightly too dark. Try cropping as close to the image as possible, and if needed brighten your image 1 or 2 times.

Maybe??

Thank you Gary,
I did try and crop it, I also tried erasing it. It didn't happen to me when I engraved it larger, it happened when I downsized it to a dog tag size.
I also added a border around it, and thought it might have been that, but I don't know why it would be. This is a mystery to me.

I don't see anything in the original image that would cause that line. It must have happened during or after conversion in Photograv.

When you say you downsized it, did you do that after Photograv? You should never scale the output of Photograv. If you want a smaller image you need to scale the grayscale image first and send that to Photograv. Then use the result from Photograv at it's full size.

Hi Dave,
No, I downsized it in X3 and then sent it to photograv.
I think this is just a fluke.
Thanks anyway,
Barbara

The image obfuscated the line with the file. I will look at it this afternoon. Sorry.

I took your image and powerclipped into an oval and ran it. Didn't get the line.

The width divided by 2 but not by four, so I resampled it to be two pixels less in width, that made it divisible by four. I then made the width .003" smaller in Draw, the equivalent of one pixel.

It should now work being sent to the laser.

Thank you Harvey,
I will let you know how it works.
Thank you,
Barb :D

Harvey,
I still got the line in it. I give up. I scrapped the bride and put a photo of a dog instead.
It worked fine.
Thanks for trying.

Now I have no idea of what it could be. Those two tricks always solved it for me when it happened.

The only possibility left is to make the picture a little larger and powerclip it into the right size box. That takes the edge of the picture out of the printout. Corel will clip/mask to the box and not put out that part of the photo. Be sure to make the outline of the powerclip box white or the outline will engrave.

Thanks, I didn't think to try that.
The dog photo came out very nice, so I know it's the picture, I just didn't know why it got a line all of a sudden. I used it for other engravings and it worked fine.
Thanks again Harvey,
Barb
