Full Version: Beer Mugs

Greetings friends,
I have a customer who is interested in 18 glass beer mugs. Black embellishment (text and logo) would be used so they need to be dishwasher safe.

I can't sublimate them since they want glass. Anyone here do that in that quantity or know of a direction to point me?

Thanks very much
Becky

Becky,

That's a tough one. Sounds like a silkscreen job, but the quantity isn't large enough to get anyone's attention.

It's possible to have mugs coated for sublimation, but, once again, the quantity probably wouldn't be large enough to make it worthwhile, or an inexpensive proposition.

You might check with Laser Reproductions (LR), to see if it's something they offer as a non-catalog item.

LR has a $400 minimum for custom coating.

Doesn't Cermark make something for glass?

I have a sublimation coated beer mug here but there is no name/paperwork with it and I don't remember who I got it from...

They ARE available and perhaps someone on DSSI could tell you off the top of their head who the supplier is.

Laser OEM toners should fill the bill, email me the artwork and I will do up a sample frosted glass beer mug for you.

A word of advice for people who sublimate glass beer mugs.

Don't dunk them into water, after pressing, as many people do with ceramic coffee mugs.

The thermal shock will break the glass.

If the graphic is suitable, why not sandcarve and fill with a paint...we have used rub and buff that has done well in the dishwasher.

Doug,
My lack of sand carving equipment is going to be my big hold up with that idea. :S
But I bet it's a good thought!!

Thanks for the thought though!

Becky,

You have a couple of options on smaller screen print orders like this.

1). Find a supplier who will do the smaller quantity by adding a less-than-minimum charge.

2). Order 36 mugs from HERE, and sell them 18 for $5.90 each. At a later date you'll have the other 18 to sell them. Even if you never sell them, they've been paid for.

You'll find that either route is going to net you about the same profit.

Hi Brian,
Here is a picture of 2 we did this morning. They are frosted glass (frosted inside and out). Done with OEM Laser toners and uncoated steins.

Mick,

Would the image be considered "dishwasher safe"?

Also, did you press them in a traditional mug press, or did you use mug wraps?

thanks Mick,

They look great, but I'm wondering the same about dishwasher safe and how you pressed them?

I used a wrap (slightly smaller diameter than standard), yes, they are dishwasher safe.

Greetings-

As an update to the beer mug issue, my customer has changed her mind and decided to go with engraved wine goblets instead. :S

Those at least I can do in house. I just hate spending all the time looking for a price/supplier to have them change their mind >.<

I know, it's all part of the business. Doesn't mean I have to like it :D

Thanks for your help everyone. I DID get some great sources for products and LOVED Mick's frosted mugs. I will be finding a need for those very soon!!

Thanks for your help everyone!!
Becky
