Full Version: Looking for Source for this Tile Plaque

Howdy ALL!!
I'm hoping the attached photo of a tile plaque will be familiar to some of you such that you can direct me to a possible source.

These tiles are quite popular with municipalities to be given as gifts to visiting dignitaries, etc.

The tile seems to be screened with 3 colors and then trimmed in something like a 22k gold. The gold is the wide outer square outline, as well as the text below the logo, the "V" and the braid or rope portion of the outer edge of the logo circle.

The tile is routed into a laminated wood piece consisting of two parts: a 1/4 inch piece of veneer plywood (front) and dense 1/4 inch beveled fiberboard.

There was a Southern California company name and phone number with the tile, but the number has been disconnected. I'm not sure that this particular company was the ultimate source or, like me, simply a vendor.

Thanks in advance for any assistance. And I apologize for the file size if it's too large.

Not having heard from anyone, which is highly unusual, I thought I would send out a 2nd Request and let you ALL know I could still use some help if you can offer any.

Thanks.

Those wouldn't be that hard to make. A simple router job for the cut out on the plaque and OEM Transfer or Dye sub for the tile.

Ed,

The walnut veneer tile plaques, are a stock item from Tuff-Weld, located in Van Nuys, CA.

www.tuffweld.com

It's the mirror gold trim on the tiles themselves that has me stumped. There used to be (still?) a place in Glendale, CA who did that type of work.

Never knew the name of the company and the person who might know isn't reachable at the moment.

Ed,

The Allen Company shows a tile in their 2007 catalog on page 45. The sample is from the city of Santa Paula California (very similar to the one you show) - it has a felt back & comes in a gift box, so the wood piece you described might have been a custom job.

I have had Studio Workshop make the walnut plaque board with the "Pocket" as they call it for the tile to set in flush. You might try to source this as 2 separate jobs.............
1. the tile
2. the board

The gold ink is their 22k Gold ink - 60 cents extra (A)

David: Sharon and I both knew we had met someone at one of the shows, but we could not recollect the Company name or location; although we thought it was in "the Valley".

As it turns out, it was Tuff-Weld. Thank you, thank you.

Thank you, John. Although we believe the company is Tuff-Weld, I am going to check out Allen Company's product.

I appreciate your response.

Ed,

I don't believe Tuff-Weld makes the tile - just the wood part. I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that to be the case.

Thanks, Sprinter, but when these cities already have something, they're reluctant to switch to another process. We had already run the dye-sub concept by them, since that is one of the things we do.

Ed,

We do tile plaques all year long. The Allen Company can do tiles and Moslow Wood Products sell stock 9x12 walnut boards with 6"x6" square routes for tiles.
