Full Version: Alumamark & Photos...

I offered my customer a team photo on silver alumamark. They think it's a great idea, and so did I until I can't get a good image. Until today I had not tried the silver or a photo on any alumamark. I have had no issues with the gold and text.

Today I ran some tests on the silver with my 30W ULS....I got the best results at 24p 80s. So, once I got that taken care of I tried the photo on a 2" silver disc. NOT GOOD! The black is nowhere near the black I got with the testing. I ran at 250dpi....1,000ppi at image density 6.

I used the Alumamark parameters in PhotoGrav.......

The image takes on a different look depending on the light reflection.....

Customer is at crunch time and I'm not sure what else I can do. It's hard finding a nice acrylic that's horizontal to accept the photo. Airflyte has one but gonna be kinda pricey for their budget.

Brian,

Are you still doing ink jet sublimation?

If so, printing a black and white photo, to brushed silver aluminum, looks very similar to the Metal Photo process.

Brian,

I do that type of plate for a commercial realty agency.

They must like them.

I've been making them, year-in and year-out, for at least five years.

Not only are the results similar to the Metal Photo process, there's the added advantage of including a color, other than black.

How do they hold up outside ?

Usually with an outdoor foam tape or screws. :P

Peter,

Dye sublimated plates aren't meant for exterior use. If used temporarily, they should be good for a few months, but that depends upon how much UV exposure they're subjected to.

There are overcoats, i.e. Frog Juice and others, that can prolong the life of an image, but not for the long haul.
