Full Version: Help please-Cutout Patterns

Hi,
I trying to create a cutout pattern to use on my laser, however i don't seem to be able to close all the loops (?) and therefore the laser is starting at one point, soing that and ten starting at another point and fininshing that.

I've tried welding, but it doesn't seem to work. I've tried auto close and that just puts in unwanted lines, so I'm a t a loss.

I attached the file in the hope that it helps to sort my problem. he circled areas appear to be the open loops

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Dave

Griffo;

I've attached a colored snapshot of the broken apart line set. Each color is a different line. Does this represent what the laser is doing? Do you have vector optimization "on" for your laser?

Do you want to laser the border first and then the 3 inside lines or do you want to create a continuous loop of all 7 (or more) lines?

Hi Carl,
I guess if I could have a continuos loop that would be good as the laser wouldn't have to stop.

Failing that I guess the border first, then the 2 verticals and then the middle horizontal.

I could do the 2nd option by overlaying lines I guess, but option 1 would be good if I could achieve it.

Thanks
Dave

Griffo;

There are a LOT of extraneous nodes in those lines . In several places, I didn't look everywhere, the curves backtrack on top of themselves (see image for one example). You need to use the shape tool and zoom in close to delete the extraneous ones.

The attached (CDR file) is 4 curves: border and 3 interior curves. I don't know how the Epilog treats curve sequencing for engraving, but it should vector the inside first and then the outside curve. If not, trying rearranging the order in the Object Manager.

Hi Carl,
Thanks for your help and your time in resolving my problem.
There's only supposed to one line (no inner and outer), so I'm going to take the easy option and have individual lines overlapping each other. I'll order them in object manager to optimise the path of the laser.

Once again, thanks for your help as I've a better understanding of the process now

Regards
Dave
