Full Version: Xenetech XGW32 TT Font Problems

It did that to me when changing computers.
It was because I used a higher resolution and
clicked to change the size of the fonts in the
computer display settings.
Its in the advanced tab.

I don't remember it changing when clicked but I know all my stored
layouts came out different till I changed it back.

True types vary a lot. If you select them you can see the white space they were formatted in. It looks like XGW uses that to center and not the
actual letter.

The letters may not fill up the area or may not be vertically centered.

TT Times roman I have has about .02 inches more space at the top than bottom if centered equally on the plaque in XGW32.

Arial centers perfect.

Some script fonts are way different.

This is especially noticeably for door number signs and small plates.
I have a lot that request a certain height and if I use that it may
be 1/8" or more different and not centered.

I draw a centered rectangle and center and size it visually.

I just had a strange case last week with an unusual font a customer just had to have. The first and last letters of the line of text extending beyound the bounding box. When I sent to the laser from XGW32 parts of the first and last letters did not laser and was cut off right were the boxes where. I had to add a space before and after the letters so it would all laser. Some extened letters like y and g extend beyond the box at the
bottom but they always laser completely. I guess out of curiosity I shout try to engrave that strange font on the rotary and see what happens. I am sure that last script would also be off centered to the right unless you adjusted it.

Logojohn,

That is how I get right height when doing TT fonts by drawing a rectangles size of finished text to be and then resize each line to fit in boxes, just as you show in attached image.

As for changing font appearance in advanced tab it is ok but it changes all ikons on desktop and page setup in Xenetech to much smaller bars all around. Is there a way to have ikons larger without affecting font layout in job setup.

Thank you for help
Tony

Cadwell,

That is a very interesting TTF problem that you and the others have described. If you could send a saved XOT job that demonstrates the problem I will be happy to look at it and see if there is a quick solution.

Please choose an XOT that contains a line of text that you KNOW was saved at a certain letter height, i.e. 1", etc., and e-mail that job to tech@xenetech.com. Please include in the e-mail message such details as "the text height was saved at 1" in XGW version x.xx, but now when opened in XGW version x.++ the letter height has changed to 1.19" or .876, etc.

From what I understand in the other posts this text will also engrave at the new incorrect height.

If you send that XOT with the above details I will try to trace the problem down.

Cary
