Full Version: Type of Diamond Drag Graver

Engraving pure silver medallions (soft silver) with text and graphics, using a phoenix 1212 and sensor that detects surface.

What degree of diamond drag cutter should I use?

90*
120*
130*
140*

Some letters that are engraving, using true type fonts that are filled are 2mm high. On average, I'll say text is about 2.5mm high.

Thanks for the input!

No Less than 120* - 130* are appropriate 140* is for Gold/Pewter.

I *think* the ones I use for medals are 120*, and the ones for stainless are 150*.

Been a while since I looked, so I'm not sure that's totally accurate.

I stand corrected!

I wasn't at the shop last night, so I couldn't verify the angle.

Now that I can look at the tools, I can officially say that I'm using 140* diamonds for stainless, and 120* for everything else.

Thanks to all the responses.

Since I am diamond dragging pure silver, it looks as if 140* or 150* are in order.

Can anyone recommend a source for quality cutters online?

Thanks.

Several.

We use Artisan, since they are pretty close to us (Dallas, TX).

We've also bought tools from Antares.

Bruce Diamond is another.

Personally I would use a 130*.......lines are finer and you can push a little deeper to get better letter glitter.

Just my thoughts.... we all have them!

In this day and age, I'm surprised neither of the 2 recommended offer online ordering.

I didn't think deeper was better with silver. I thought it would leave burrs.
