Full Version: Xenetech 912 Viper

Thank you all for your input. Looked into it even more after I posted the First message. I was able originally to give it an IP address. I can see it on the network, I can even "PING" it. I've noticed sometimes I power the unit up and the display Just says "XENETECH" with the IP address. Sometimes it will go the the opening screen where it shows the X,Y, Z controls showing no jobs loaded and I can go thru the screen. I'm suspecting maybe a intermitant power or connection problem. However I opened the unit and checked the connections even reseated the plug ins. Still Nothing. I am really disappointed at this time since I have been waiting for this to cut signs for a customer. I told them I should be able to get them cut over this weekend. Maybe not. I will keep trying.

Randy,

Any words of advice, or a remote control fix for Ray?

Thank you,

Our rotarys are still the old pci cards and one even still has the isa long card.

Do the vipers also use a"job server" like the Xenetech laser we have.

It is a separate application and if it is not started you can't send jobs to the laser.

Ray,

Once you have touch screen shoving x, y, z control coordinates you sould be ready to send your file from XWG job setup and than your job will be ready to engrave. You setup all parameters on computer screen and pendant touch screen than takes control for start, stop resset etc.
Yuo can save jobs in special folder and call them up from touch screen,
but I do not use that option. I open jobs from xot files as needed and sand them to pendant one at the time. hope this helps.

Well, I'm suspecting a bad voltage or a loose connection. Now the only thing the pendant will do is show the Xenetech with the IP address. It doesn't seem to go past that point.

Ray,

Try reseting your computer. On reset it will try to establish communucation with MPU. Also you may try to turn off switch on MPU for about 10 sec. than back on.

Ray,

Why isn't your distributor doing the setup for you? I don't know where Nederland is....is that in the Brewer's territory?

I have a XOT 912 Viper, and I wouldn't trust the documentation to be any help for setting the machine up. I would strongly recommend letting your distributor do it, or at least walk you through it on the phone.

Cody,

I agree with you, about getting distributors help. Maybe his distributor is closed for weekend and he wants to get started ASAP. From past exireance I know that Xenetec's CS is top notch and everiting will work out at the end.
Cody how is learning process going with you. You have 912 machnine as well and you have had some issues in past. Just wondering.

Hehehe....I still have issues, but they're not all engraving-related.

My experiences with XOT CS haven't put them in the "top notch" category. Thankfully, I have Roy and Randy to help me.....and they've worked out every engraving-related issue that's come up with me.

My 912 is still cranking stuff out. Sometimes it just goes brain dead, though. It was in the middle of a job Thursday, and it just froze. The screen said that it couldn't communicate with the pc anymore, or it couldn't read the file, or something like that (don't remember exactly). I cycled power on the machine, and it worked fine.

Of course, the item that I was working on was then scrapped. Naturally, it happened to a "customer's own" piece....cost me about $50.

That kind of loss is too common with this machine.

Cody sorry to hear that specially when it cost you to scrap customers pieces. There are few things I was able to do with old electronics that viper does not support, like grid cutout pause to change cutter on fly.
You are lucky you have Brewer's crew help when you need it.

AMEN to that!! They have been awesome, and they are the ONE thing that has kept me from going to another manufacturer.

Cody,
I wouldn't do that. From distance grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence. I 've been using XOT since 1992 and I am ok with it. At least we don't need dongle's to deal with as one forum member had, not long ago.

I purchased it from Roy's team, because they are top notch on support when needed. I have not set up for Roy to come by here. I just was trying to set things up on my own ( amen to the manuals that come with it on not making any sense) The Dvd that came with it looks great, no telling how many times they had to pause and reshoot the video to get it to run. I have several machines here ( Laser, Vinyl Cutter, Card Printers, and 2- Color Laser Printers, 1 Monochrome Laser printer, 2- Inkjet printers all on my network here at home with 4 computers). It didn't arrive until yesterday (Friday) evening. Can't stand to have someting like that just sitting around doing nothing. I'm sure in the end it will work out. Just turned it on again, still only the Xenetech and IP address.

Ray,

Do you have the Viper Driver software installed on your computer? This is separate from the XGW (graphics workstation) software.

For the machine to see the computer, the Viper Driver has to be running.

Cody nailed it on the head - from the sounds of it you do not have your Viper driver installed and if it is you must open it after you turn on the engraver. When it recognizes the driver it will make a snapping sound or locking sound that is telling the engraver that the diver is functioning. Then you Pennet will give you the screen your looking for.

Viper Driver is showing up in system start up tray. If you bring the cursor over the driver icon it says "Viper Driver- Listening for Viper (3190). If you right click on it, you can check hot watch, and it shows to be active.

Hmmmm....okay. Sorry it wasn't that easy.

I now sounds like an IP address issue. If I was near my machine, I'd look up how it's done for us. I did have to change it a little from what the manual said, since I now run mine through a router.

PROGRESS. This morning I thought I would give it another try. I tried connecting directly with the crossover cable. I noticed the viper driver in the system tray said "listening for viper " So I click on the viper driver again. and a NEW Icon came up, 912 reset to home. Still get error message of " APU/MPU Error, reset red button on Pendant (Which there isn't one) Make sure power on MPU is on. Well at least I am closer than yesterday. I deffinently know it is talking to it now! Will leave this connection alone until I get it to work, then I will try the network. Any suggestions.
Now I have to go the the In-Laws house for a while

Patiently Waiting.................

L J,
Viper systems can be setup to access special folder (in box) or you can send jobs already created and saved in xot folders on hard drive.
When you recall job directly from touch screen pendant, files saved in INBOX, you have to be sure you have file you want cos you can't view it on your desktop and only file name will be displayed on pendant, that is why I prefer to open jobs on desktop and verify all settings prior to downloading to MPU (F1 shortcut). I do not have Xenetech laser but I belive that procedure is pretty close.
I also have older electronics MPU with long card APU that I kept after upgrading to viper, just in case things go wrong I can always go back to old setup.

Hi Ray,

I don't know where are you at this point, but was wondering if you did go to neighborhood networks where you would enter IP address (page 5 & 6 of installation manual). On my setup I have checked box for system to automatically assign IP address. My setup is via hub network (red ethernet cable) however by using crossover cable should not matter in your case.
Good luck

Tony
