Wolvey,

What Bertuzzi did was partially fault of Steve M. in my view.
When challenged, if he would've turned around, dropped gloves and face the music, I belive outcome may have been quite different.

Now that my beloved Maple Leafs are out if it for 40th year and counting. :'-(

I would like to see Canucks vs. Sabres in final. Two fan bases that never won anything major.

Your Dead Things will miss Stevie Y. Good luck anyway.

Huh? I'm not sure which (of many) events you're talking about. My thought was on when he punched Paul Kariya in the back of the head while they were skating into the Canuck zone. Very cheap, dirty, scuzzy way to play.

I think Dallas fans owe Toronto a huge debt of gratitude for taking Eddie Belfour away. ;-) Now if we could only get a goaltender that didn't choke during the playoffs.

Yzerman is definitely missed. :'-(

Cody,

The one I am talking about involves Steve Moore (Colorado Av's.).

The incident with Paul Kariya was Garry Sutter doing that comes to mind I'am not sure, as you pointed out there were numerous.

Eddy The Eagle did ok (for his age) in Toronto, after we lost Cujo to Dead Things (Red Wings). =:)

Do you think Hasek will choke in playoffs? He led the team to top of western division.

BTW, love to talk some hockey to Texan.

Tony,

I don't remember the one with Moore.....when was that?

Hasek is still one of the best in the NHL. Will he choke? Anybody's guess. They're a little shallow in goal now, even with Chris Osgood. They HAVE to depend on their offense to generate, especially on the power play.

I'll be watching their game tonight against Calgary to see what kind of pace they set.

One thing is almost certain: Turco WILL choke. So will several of his skaters. They seem to be too easily intimidated by physical play, even though they are VERY capable of it themselves. When the Stars decide to finish their checks, and quit playing like individuals (rather than a team), they can beat anyone in the league. The trouble is in their mindset. They believe that the other team is better, therefore they ARE.

On the other hand, Dallas has done pretty well against playoff teams this year. We'll just have to see.

Just a side note: My wife is a very mild-mannered lady, and very seldom raises her voice or makes a "mean" face. However, put her in front of a television with a hockey game on, or send her to a game, and you will see a VERY different side of her. I need to videotape her watching a game sometime....very entertaining (and scary).

This is the one I am thinking of.

Gee wizz, I wish my wife would watch a sporting event of any kind with me. Maybe I can get her around to it when Italy plays in world cup soccer otherwise, she is more of "Phantom of the Opera" type.

Thanks for refreshing my memory, and for helping me remember why I can't stand Bertuzzi. I did see that game, and it made me very mad that a coward like Bertuzzi would be allowed to play the game.

When he was traded to Detroit, I made the statement that, although the Wings have been my favorite team for several years, I hope they NEVER win another game as long as he's there.

He's a coward and a classless individual. Again, that is NOT a good fit for Detroit. He DID fit well in Vancouver (can't stand that team anyway).

Hey Cody and Engraver- Just finished watching the Wings beat the Flames at their own game. I have watched the Wings all year and they have been criticized as being very soft. And rightfully so. But not tonight!!! Gotta love the way they initiated the physical play. Even Datsyuk and Zetterberg who just came back after more than a month off. I truly believe they shocked the Flames with this style. They shocked me. As far as Stevie Y. being gone, I thought it would really upset the balance but it only did for about a month or so. He was the ultimate captain. Engraver- wouldn't you like to see the Wings back in the East where they belong. It is ridiculous that the Original Six hardly ever play. At least for us. Only 1 game each with Boston, NY, Montreal,Toronto this year. We play Chicago, Nashville, St. Louis, and Columbus way too many times. This commissioner has his head up his #*ss. Games on Versus??? What is that?? Oh BTW, the dominator is in fact a head case. But in his last three play off games has given up a total of 2 goals!! I like our chances with the Dominator. It's only one game down with 15 to go but looking good so far. Also Bertuzzi did not play tonight. Out suffering effects of a concussion. Engraver you were right about the incident I was talking about with Moore of the Aves.(the dirty mudsliders!!) Like I said earlier it was a dirty cheap shot that he took. The net result was the bad part when Moore's head hit the ice. Still glad he's on our side though. Red Wings 4 Flames 1 GO WINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Jeanette, I resemble that remark. Better watch out for The Queen, she feels she has a lock on this Cheesehead!

Oh my God. I forget every year. Wings Fans! They are always chirping about how far they are going to go in the playoffs. The BAMMO, their season is over. How many times have we wathced the Wings coast along, thinking that all they have to do is turn it on. (I couldn't resist. I have a buddy from the Motor City, who is always going on about his Wings. I always know when they are eliminated from the playoffs when he goes silent.) Actually, I think Detroit has some of the most knowledgeable fans in the U.S.

Now, let's talk about a real contender. How 'bout those Wild! Man have they got some zip to them. Who would want to go back to the locker room and face Lemaire. He would turn those cold gray eyes on you and you would freeze into a big icecube. My kid used to call a coach like that The Vapor.

And one more little note to Jeanette - GO PACK GO

Wolvey, congrats to all Red Wings fans.

The Wings played fantastic game all around. Dominator was not tested in this game that much. Soft guys did show some gritt and controlled the game flow as they normally do. I do not see any problems for the Wings
passing first round.

As for not being able to see Original six on more than one game every two-three seasons I am with you all the way. How in the world did they stick Detroit in the west is beyond me. :<

Jeanette,

What is the discussion in Cowboys land on future of T. O.
Will he be team player or coaches headache, or as usual? Great talent but I don't want him on my team, no thanks.

Tony,

Darn it! I was hoping you'd take him!

He showed up (that's better than he did last year) for off-season warm-ups; however, he couldn't do anything since his finger hurts. :S

I suspect he'll be about the same as last year -- decent numbers but nothing but a headache for everyone else. Here's hoping our new coach will manage to get the best out of TO but I'm not holding my breath.

Jennette,

Here is the next most important question in deciding how the boys season will end up.

"Will Romo be the field goal holder this year"

From: jeanettebrewer (JEANETTEBREWER2) [#33]

To: laserman (MIKEMAC) [#32] 13 Apr 2007

You won't believe me, but I started yelling at Bill Parcells (he may not have been able to hear me since I was yelling at him on TV) during Romo's 2nd professional start.

The kid just brought us from behind -- threw a great touchdown pass -- he's jumping up & down (so am I, by the way) -- when he had to calm down enough, immediately, to hold the ball for the kicker.

PLEASE! What idiot was making that decision?! (See? You got me started). Anyway, LONG before THE drop, I was not happy with Tony having to do that extra duty.

Luckily, Coach Phillips has already announced that we will have someone else for that job this year. Smart move, huh?

Did you people fed our boy Mike Vandrejaght some "MAD COW" BBQ?
Can't belive what happened to him, best kicker in NFL.

I was all excited when we signed him before last season. Here I am thinking -- well, at least we don't have to worry about field goals this year!

Where did he end up?

Hey Tony- Thanks. Wings did look good last night. You are right. Dom wasn't tested too much but did come thru on a couple of tough ones. He has been strong all year. But the Wings have allowed the fewest shots on goal this year so he has had some help. It still amazes me that Dom at 41 and Chelios at 45!!!! can still play at a high level. I am with you on the original 6. Since the Avs have really faded lately, we no longer have a real rivalry with anyone. Would like to see it renewed with Toronto and Montreal. Home and homes are great. Or at least they used to be. Hopefully the league will wake up soon and get someone in charge who can promote this sport the way it should be. Oh well, wishful thinking. GO WINGS!!!!

You're welcome Jim.
Yes, it is amazing that Dom and Chris can be so effective at their age.
Don't forget Gordie played with his boys at the retirement age (almost).
I guess, today's athletes are much better conditioned year round and can expand their careers to 40 and beyond.
What do you think of Sidney Crosbie. The kid never stops (energizer bunny). Watch out for Pens in couple of years.
Have you heard of John Tavares, 16 year old kid with Oshawa Generals. This kid is breaking some of Wayne G. records in OHL.

League will never wake up or use common sense as long as Betman is looking to market the game in area where people don't care for it. It is fine when team is doing OK, they will draw 10 to 12 K, but when things go south there will be no interest. Coyotes are there now.

Hey Tony- You are right that today's athletes are better conditioned than years ago. An awful lot of money to walk away from. But I also think it speaks to the culture of hockey players. They truly love their sport. I had an opportunity to speak with Gordie and his wife a couple years ago and what class people they were. Met them at a book signing for one of Gordie's books and it was like speaking to old friends. Unbelievable!!Really seemed interested in everyone they spoke with. Very down to earth people. Of course Gordie and Al Kaline were my childhood heroes. As far as Crosby goes, I have only seen him play once on tv. Again it goes to the fact that the Wings are in the west and we just don't see the Eastern teams very often. Seems like he is destined for great things though. And the Penguins are definetly back on the rise. Acquired some good players lately. Also nice to see that they are staying in Pittsburg. From what I read here, it was largely due to the efforts of the governor of Pa. and other local politicians. Bettman is a joke. We need a NHL guy to run this thing. Not a former NBA guy who has no understanding of the culture and draw. They really need to promote the sport with the younger skilled players like you mentioned Crosby. There are several in the league. It probably will never be a major sport here in the US unfortunately. It did used to be one of the major four sports but not any longer. The lockout really sealed their fate I am afraid. Hopefully the owners will wake up and put someone with an NHL background in place. I know the Great One is an owner but maybe he would be a good commissioner? Don't know anything about Tavares. But back when the lockout was on( a very dark time) I started watching a lot more college hockey and found it extremely exciting. Certainly they are not as skilled as the NHL but these kids go all out 100% of the time. At least two or three times a game, some player forgets to keep his head up and you can guess what happens. It helped me get my hockey "fix". I have a cousin who lives in the Stoney Creek area in Ontario. He is retired from Canada Bell and has been a life long Canadiens fan. But now is much more of a Blue Jays fan. There is another sport that is screwed-up. Just when the Tigers and Jays were developing a nice rivalry, now we hardly play each other again. One home series for each team. Crazy. GO WINGS!!!!
