Full Version: advise on mounting acrylic to marble

All,
I have engraved onto the back of a piece of clear acrylic and am now looking for a way to mount it to a black marble tile. The black marble provides the contract I need for the engraving to pop out nicely. The mounting can either be permanent or removable. The main thing is to find a method that is attractive, preferable not even noticeable. Would anyone have any ideas?

Mike: I don't think glue is the answer, even if it is optically clear, my guess is that it will fill in the etched areas and the image will disappear. My take would be 4 small holes with brass or bronze rivet type of attachment in the corners. Is it marble or granite? If marble you can buy cheap at the hardware store a bit for drilling porcelean or glass 1/8". If it is granite this becomes a different issue, email me and I can give you some alternatives. Of course I would cut the holes in the acrylic with the laser, mark your marble and drill. Use water to keep the bit cool, go slow, don't use a hammer drill. I would like to see the finished product if you don't mind.

They make Brass Spacers with Decorative Nuts that might just do the trick....... But the task of drilling the marble and acrylic will be necessay....

I would go with the brass screws, if it were me. But, if you don't want to drill, I wonder if glue dots (found at your local craft store) would work - one in each corner.

By the way, thanks to all that replied to this thread. I actually put this idea on hold and went with a different product but may come back to it and try again at some point.

why not put 4 metal buttons or a strip on the top and on the bottom to cover the adhesive?
