I've seen several videos of multi-touch screens, but hadn't seen that one before. I'm a little suspicious about the first part being real. In several points the image started moving before the fingers, or didn't follow the finger's movement.

The leader in this type of interface is a guy named Jeff Han, and his demos show much faster motions and tight response between the fingers and the screen.

Here are a couple of links to his demos. Not specific about using a paint program, but with lots of image manipulation involved. In the first one he is demonstrating the process last year at a technology convention. The good part is a couple of minutes into the video clip.

This is another demo, on a larger screen, with no talking. There is a 30 second commercial at the beginning that you have to put up with:

Wow,

yes those are much faster, I think this technology is amazing and very "handy" :)

So, what's going to be next?...

I saw a system demonstrated in Germany back in the 90s that could tell what part of a screen you were looking at, and move an effect across the screen based on where you were looking. It wasn't too accurate, but that was more than 10 years ago.

I'd love to see more of a demonstration using this for designing. It could be awesome. I can really see it of use in the editing of film and TV.

Here's a couple more clips. The first one is a demo from last year with a number of different programs. Some just interactive visual generators, others are specific programs.

This clip is an interview at a recent tech show. Unfortunately the cameraman is not very good at keeping up with what the guy is doing on the touch screen. But watch about 2 minutes into it where he clips out a portion of an image in about 1 second with his finger tip.

Dave,

The conspiracy theorist in me says this approach is an example of collusion between Adobe and Windex. :-)
