Full Version: ARA get-together(s) - Where/When?

OK kids- Here we go!

With so many people eager to "rub elbows" at:

ARA/Las Vegas
March 2-5, 2005

it's difficult to bring everyone together, in one place, at one time.

- therefore, a recommendation -

Every evening, after the trade show, it's a safe bet (pun intended:) you'll meet some of our enthusiastic group at "Quark's Restaurant."

Quark's is a "Star Trek" theme-restaurant, located adjacent to the LV Convention Center, in the Las Vegas Hilton." It's a quiet section of the Hotel, until we get there at 6:00 pm. :-)

May the force be with them!! :-)

Another recommendation, is to create a namebadge, showing you're either an Engraving Etc. and/or DSSI forum member.

Who knows when you'll be standing next to a forum member, while checking out an engraving, or laser, or sublimation, or sandcarving, or award components, or wood suppliers, or acrylic/crystal supplier's (well, you get the idea) booth at the show?

Who knows? Maybe an especially creative namebadge will inspire an official logo for the forum!

In closing, the get-togethers have always been HUGE fun (and rampant networking) which have only gotten better with time.

This year, should be no different.

See you there :-)

Fred,

Last year at ARA, you taught a seminar on mechanical engraving system maintenance. Forgive me for not remembering its proper title.

What's in store this year? New topic? Reprise of last year's?

David,
This year I am doing a new seminar, Maximizing Your Rotary Engraver. Here it is Saturday night 8 pm and I am working on my PowerPoint. I figure the prep for a seminar is about 120 hours. But the rewards are worth it. I will have the PP done the night before my seminar, like usual.
Its always tougher to intro a new seminar in Las Vegas, once had 300+ people show up for my 101 Tips. Yipes.

Fred,

Sounds great! With so much emphasis on laser equipment, your seminar stands to be a real eye-opener.

Fred,

It is bad enough that I miss the show and the EE Pow Wow, but now you have really put me into a state of depression. How can I miss a seminar like that? This is bordering on torture.

David NO Whining - We all did our best to get you there- I even offered real money. So while he rest of us have left the fort to see the new horizons, someone (that's you) must hold down the fort - Welcome in the lost and forlorn, & fight back the hostiles. You can do it and we are counting on you!!!!! Meanwhile when we ride back in with loads of new information, ideas, samples and new friends, we would expect the place to be clean and neat as we left it - also if you could have a little supper fixed it would be nice. Joe

Joe,

After that post, you now fall under that hostile classification. :-)

There will be no supper. While you are gone, your watchdog employee will get an invitation to a once-in-a-lifetime concert out of town. They will turn the keys and control of your lifetime investment over to a stranger. That stranger is a very curious person. He ends up doing some very nice sandcarving, but does it with the blasting cabinet door open and the dust collector turned off. He also becomes very intrigued with this laser thing he sees. He decides it would be neat to see how many half-inch holes he can vector cut out of a 20" x 32" sheet of eighth-inch rubber. He thinks it is so neat how you can cut 2,560 half-inch holes out of a sheet that size, he just didn't notice the switch to the exhaust blower until after the job was finished.

Other than these little mishaps, things should go smoothly.

Enjoy!! :-)

ROFLAO Good comeback! Sounds like a normal day at the shop. But if you have time to come to my place and cause havic you could have come to LV with all the rest of the Forum. Seriously I do understand your situation and respect your decision, but this is so much fun. Joe

Joe,

You know I will be there in spirit.

Maybe you guys could set up a "Forum Cam" on top of someone's head. That way I could go to engraving etc.org and view what I'm missing and at least feel like I'm there.

Your seminar is the whole reason, I'm flying in the day before, spending extra money on a motel room - just so I can be there for an 8 AM class!! (There was no flights on Wednesday that arrived in LV before 8am. ) Can't wait !!

Jay Clark, a member of the DSSI forum and a Las Vegas resident, is offering a Field Trip/BBQ at his home, located not too far from "The LV Strip."

Date/time to be determined.

The field trip aspect, is a tour of Jay's 800 sq. ft. work area, dedicated to creating ceramic tile murals.

Thursday evening will be the primary "Quark's Get-Together." Other than that, when Jay cracks the whip, I'll make the trip! :-)

Looking forward to it.

David, I would absolutly love to go and see the tile sublimation place. If there is a sign up later on, would you please let me know?
This is to all of you. This is my first ARA show and I can hardly stand my self. I'm so exited. I remember when I wen the first time to a BIG show a few years ago. I was like a kid in a candy store. There were so many ideas and so much to learn I was unable to sleep at night.
Wow.

Fred,
I am one of the unfortunate few that cannot attend LV. I wonder, will your seminar be available on video or DVD? Since I am new to the industry (do not yet own an engraving machine) it sounds like your presentation would be extremely valuable for me and maybe others. Is this a possibility?

Rolf,

Looking at a very busy day today, but I'll be sure to post the invitation from Jay, or if you just can't wait, go to www.dyesub.org/forum where he's posted the info.

Take it from me. The excitement you're feeling doesn't go away from year to year. It doesn't :-)

Do you think it would be possible to video the seminar? Maybe someone attending could video it for us? I don't know what kind of cost would be involved but "pictures are worth a thousand words".

Mickey,
There is no videoing allowed. The write up is pretty complete, with pix and such. I will have it posted on my website by the end of the week. As soon as I have an exact link, I will post here.
