Full Version: Las Vegas 2006

We had such a great time at the Vegas show meeting new people, seeing new product etc. that we are already thinking about 2006. I know some of you got rooms at the Hilton for 45.00. How did you do that? If it is doable lets make those reservations now. If not the Hilton how about discussing where we stayed this time and coordinating a block of rooms for 2006?

Dee,

This is a great idea. I have heard about these great deals every year. I think the great deals are found when reservations are made well in advance. A few years ago, I made reservations about five months in advance and got a rate that was under $50 per night. On that reservation I made arrangements directly with the hotel and didn't mention I was an ARA Show attendee. I think the negotiated rates by the ARA are not near as good as promotional rates that can be found with forward planning.

David,

In the past I have found that it is never a good idea to use the show recommendations. I have usually been able to half the charge by doing it myself. I am sure that someone out in forum land will know just how to do it.

Dee

PS I have your clock and will mail it when I get home.

Dee,
What a great idea. I'm all in favor of a block of rooms, where we can all kibitz and get to know each other.
If we could find rooms at the hilton for a reasonable price, I'd be in favor of that. The only reason I stayed at the Hilton this time was because it was convenient for me since it was my first time at the show.
It was great to meet you and Harvey, but I do have a question. How come DAVID gets a clock and not ME???? ( Insert laugh here)

Deena -

I was able to get the $45 rate because I subscribed at www.lasvegasadvisor.com

For a $37 charge you get tips and tricks as well as a coupon book. Like most coupon books I will never use some of the things in there but one of the coupons is for a Buy 1 buffet Get 1 Free at the Hilton. I feel it pays for itself because I've gotten to know Vegas a little better through it.

Thanks for sharing your catalogs with us. If you can book a year ahead and still cancel, I don't see a down side to booking now.

Dee,

You are an angel, and I am sure Harv reminds you of that every day.

Dee,

I have confirmed that the Las Vegas Convention Center is reserved for the ARA Show from March 2, 2006 through March 4, 2006.

David,

Dee is a sweet lady and a very shrewd businesswoman.

If Harvey doesn't remind her, every day, I'll make a point to :-)

David,
Thanks for the compliment. Everytime Harv gets that look in his eyes I'm just going to remind him to read your post.

Harvey, you DO know that Dee is the only reason you have any friends right? ( insert gregarious laugh here)....

Seriously Havey and Dee, it was great to meet you both, and I look forward to a growing friendship.

Chuck: It was great meeting you, as well. Only wish we could have talked further.

Your idea about blocking several rooms adjacent to each other at the Hilton if the price is right is a good one. Assuming this could be accomplished, we could do what we do at Rotary district conferences, etc. Each night of ARA, "someone" could convert their room into a "hospitality suite" with "horsdevours" (?) and BYOB. To handle traffic, maybe 2-3 rooms at the same time, so that people could roam.

I'm not sure of the logistics or "permissions" needed, but this would certainly get us around the Quark's issues.

I just saw the dates for the show, March 1-4, so that means I still won't be 21 when it rolls around. My birthday falls some 11 days later on the 12. I suppose it could be for the better, can't loose any money. Looking foward to it, 2005 was a blast.

Nick,

I'm 51, as of Dec. last year. While in Vegas, I didn't spend one nickle on gambling and only had three (alcoholic) drinks, the entire time.

I didn't have much time, or desire, for either.

Just being around the people of this forum, and the industry in general, was all the entertainment and intoxication I needed :-)

Hope to see you there next year.

Ed,
I think "hopsitality suites" is an excellent idea. That way we could have a different host each night, greater fellowship and greater networking, plus and probably most importantly, greater friendships.
As for the logistics of it, I think if we approached the Hilton as a "group" we might be able to work around that, however, the Hilton, while most convenient in my opinion is not the only game in town. Hell, it's all a gamble... (Insert laugh here).....

The regular rooms aren't really big enough for more than maybe 8-10 people to crowd into a room. If we all pitch in 10 or 20 dollars, we could upgrade Dave to a suite and we could meet there. Although, my first choice would be to move the gathering to the Sports Book so we could watch basketball while talking shop.
