Peter,

If you come to Southern California, I can play tour guide. I've lived here all my life.

Of course, I'd expect you to reciprocate, when I come to Australia for the first time ever. :-)

Not sure when, but it's been a lifelong desire.

Ahhh...Adelaide ,South Australia, Gateway to the outback, Home of Australias largest wine growing regions ,The Barossa Valley.

Adelaides sensational street circuit car race The Clipsal 500

Home of the Port Adelaide Football Club est. 1870 (The Power)

Only 900 kms to Coober Pedy the Opal mining town in the outback (where most nearly everyone lives in underground houses)

Magnificent Blue Lake in Mount Gambier ( an ancient Volcano with a lake that turns from Grey to iradescent, glowing Cobalt blue for several months of the year, then back again for the rest)

The Adelaide Hills, that back the city with their magnificent ancient huge Gum trees, Vineyards, orchards , quaint little historic towns.

There is so much to see and do here in South Australia....The driest State in the Driest continent on Earth..... Thats generally about 100 or so kms from Adelaide which is in a green belt ( in comparison to the rest of S.A.

Adelaide, and S.A. dont feature anywhere near as much as Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane as tourist destinations, because we dont have theme Parks or a large " Thing" like the opera house or the Sydney harbour bridge or a giant rock or reef, but we have so many of the things that people can relate to....friendly people living happy productive lives in a sensational non touristy way

Your always welcome!

If you decide to come to the ARA show in Vegas next year the very best thing is getting to meet a great group of people who have interest in many of the same things as you do!! The trade show and seminar are great but getting to meet some of the charaters that frequent this place is the best part of it all. The down side is you might have to put up with some real "nuts" like Chuck Burke and Ed Holley :)  Last year one of your fellow countrymen - Anthony Coyne of Faro fame - bought drinks all night long .
I think he said that was normal for Austrialian visitors to Vegas :)
No matter what we would be glad to have you join us!!!

Peter & Kathy,
Anytime you want to do NY I'll volunteer to be your tour guide for a day. Times Square at night, Rockefeller Center, museums, great restaurants, Broadway, Central Park, the people on the streets, a ride on the subway at rush hour - they all make up one of the greatest cities in the world. Come visit! You'll have fun.

Now in Australia we all "Shout ", to shout is a real Aussie tradition, No, more than a tradition, but male ettiquette in any circumstance.
When you "Shout " someone or a group, you pay for them, that is, if you are in a pub (bar) with your mates (close male buddies), you get into a " round". A " round" is where you all " shout" each other a beer. "Shouting" also can be any other situation where you pay for something, be it a meal or any other circumstance...i.e " I cant afford the concert ticket, ...Dont worry ...I'll Shout "
( pay for it, without expectation ) Even though there is no expectation of repayment, it is always good form and a gesture of true mateship that you at some point return the favour...i.e you "shout" your friend out to something as well.

Now, it works like this, You and the rest of the boys are in the pub and I buy all 5 of you a beer, then when we finish our beer you buy the rest of us a beer and so it goes till we have all finished, Once the beers have all been bought the round is over.

There are times when you dont want to be in a round, because you dont have enough money to "shout" , so you stand out of the round and buy your own.

Ettiquette says when you visit another country, your not meant to put your hand in the ol' skyrocket, but your meant to be shouted everywhere.... :D  :D  :D

If you and Kathy come over next year your first "shout" is on me.
One of my good friend's daughters is prepairing to come home from a year in Australia. She has spent her Senior year of high school traveling around your beautiful country. I think she has lived with a total of 5 different families - from a sheep ranch to a lawyers home. It should fun to hear her
stories and see the photos.

Thanks Joe !

In Australia, we call Sheep runs and Cattle Runs "Stations", so you live on a "Station" in the out back. We have "Stockmen" instead of cowboys

I once met a Texan that told me that all things in Texas were big...and that "Ranches" in Texas were the biggest in the world.....

He looked at me with total disdain and disbelief, when I told him there were "Stations" bigger than Texas in Australia.

Your friends daughter will attest to this!

Kat and I are so looking forward to building relationships with fellow engravers in the U.S. over time and forming some long lasting friendships

Keep the mental images coming forward, we are getting excited.

A belated Aussie welcome from one cobber to another!
I have been flat out like a lizard drinkin’ organizing different tradeshows so I have had a chance to say “Howzitgoin!”
And now I find out I have to organize a piss up for the Yanks in LA
I was born in bred in Sydney but have been to the “City of churches” when the Grand Prix used to be there. I now live in Montreal Canada after meeting the woman of my dreams while she was on vacation in OZ
I reckon you have already figured it out that this place and the people are fair dinkum!
If you make it as far as Canada I’d be happy to give ya a place to lay your head.
Let me know.

How ya goin mate !

You been flat out to! Nothin worse than being flat out like a dog trying to bury a bone in a marble floor ...
So , hows a bloke get roped in to organizin a piss up for a bunch of yanks?

My beautiful wife Kathy is from Helensburgh ( south of Sydney) She was born in Darlinghurst and lived in a 3 storey terrace house there until she was 6, she then moved to Kareela, she finally moved to helensburgh until 1998, then she came to Adelaide and has been here since !

I am a true blue Adelaide boy ! Never went to a Grand Prix ( but went to every party connected to them.) :D

We have talked about going to Canada several times !
Trying to figure out where we can spend a belated Honeymoon..

Ya gotta watch those Kiwis......Drink like Fush, party like animals...but are great blokes to have as mates !

Thanks for your kind offer, will genuinely throw the consideration into the mix.

Kindest regards

Peter

John,

Please be sure to stop by and visit with us in Long Beach. I will help you with anything regarding your Versa and you won't even have to "shout" or "piss" or however you folks like to call "downing a cold one", "slamming a brewski" or just plain and simply enjoying a "beverage at the bar".

seriously bring any notes, questions, issues, ideas, etc. and we will answer them for you.

have a safe trip and we will see you in Long Beach.

Peter,
If you are wanting to see an ARA show up close and personal, the Las Vegas show would be it.
However, when you do come, please find me first so I can clue you in as to Joe Hayes.....
One of the great things I as a newbie have discovered is the wealth of friendship and information available. The comraderie it great.

Now, did I see your name on the list for the NBM show? I don't think Joe will be at that one. :D

Hi Chuck,
No, I havent put my name down for the NBM show. We are both an Engraving and sign co., I was not sure which show catered to both industries more strongly.

We are focussing our business more and more to the engraving side of things and it seems the ARA show has all aspects of this industry covered. High end Heavy duty industrial Engraving/ milling- right thru to the promtoional side of the business..would that sum it up ?

Given that, I today have told Kathy...thats it ! we will go to the USA next year to visit the ARA show..and strike up some friendships and have a good time ...and visit those places we see in the movies ...and look at what Australia would be like if we had 300,000,000 people instead of 20,000,000.. and...you know...stuff. ;-)

What type of sign work do you do? Our business is both sign and engraving as well.

By the way LazerDude picks on me - and it just crushes my ego.
