Rebecca,

There are two basic types of (entry level) metal/plastic shears.

One, is akin to a heavy duty "paper cutter" design and the other is called a "guillotine" style.

On the affordable end (under $300), I prefer the paper cutter style, although, as you move up the food chain in cost, the guillotine cutters rule the roost.

Corner rounding equipment is a separate item. A popular tool of the trade in the awards industry, is the 3-in-1 Maxi Press, which allows for a variety of configurations from one handy device.

Attached, you'll find (not in order) a picture of a popular Accu Cutter (paper cutter) shear, which is now available in an 18" version, their heavy duty guillotine cutter, with "hold-down" device and Main Trophy Supply's 3-in-1 Maxi Press and the shapes it's capable of producing.

They are harder to find but a small guillotine model 9385 will be much easier to cut plates with cut guides engraved on a full sheet of material.

I raved about one we found awhile back and since then I bought a second one as we have 2 people cutting often. We already had 2 conventional shears.

Here is the message and you might want to read that whole thread for some other ideas.

I wouldn't go much cheaper than that. If you are going to be doing a lot you will be glad you bit the bullet and got some good equipment.

Main trophy and others have several corner notchers and hole punches.
we use the model 9353 the most but also have the one with the interchangeable dies for 1/2 inch round corners and bigger notches.

Both prior posts give excellent advice.

Let me add strongly that the 3-in-one from Main Trophy may only punch, round one size, it is far better than the one with interchangeable dies. [The depth is adjustable so a simulation of different notches is available.] It is truly a production quality unit and outshines the results of the other one.

I own both and have not used the cheaper one in years.
