Sorry -- didn't mean to jump the gun. I know Dr. Dave will appreciate hearing back from you when you have more numbers to show him.

You'll definitely want to ask him about the coupon section. I'm sure they have a plan ...

Jeanette,

You do realize I expect you to read my mind. ;-)

I'm sure they have tossed around all of the impacts these changes would have.

It all sounds pretty good to me, but I am sure there will be some who will really miss the immediacy of the printed version when they just need a phone number.

Chuck,

I guess another positive to web-based directories is the fact that you have the information with you wherever you have computer access.

Jeanette,
Thanks for finding out that information. As I mentioned in my post to David T, for product/service information I think an online directory is the only way to go. However for magazines etc, I still prefer the printed version.

On another not, could you either pm or email me Dr. Dave's email?

Thanks

That's great, as long as your DSL service doesn't go up and down constantly (like mine has this last week). :@

I wasn't totally AGAINST an online version to begin with, but Dave's explanation sounds really good!

The other side to the coin is that we still have previous years' directories for those times that the online version isn't practical. It won't be as current, but most of the information will still be accurate.

The more I think about this, the better it sounds to me. Heck, I just might get excited about it!

I don't have a problem with online directories, but I do have concerns about an online ARA Directory. If the final product is as complete and functional as their website....well, let's just say the internet isn't one of our organization's strong suits.

Jim,

I'm reserving judgement. I am curious to know if they outsourced this project, or hired additional staff to maintain the ongoing project.

I think there is a place for both.

I have to admit, I have grabbed the printed catalog and most of the time it wasn't much help. A few times it listed a supplier we had an account with that I didn't realize carried certain items so it did help.

If the website is designed well and returns pictures with relevant content, it would be a useful tool and I would likely use it more than the catalog.

When looking for a product from individual suppliers, usually I find it faster to flip through catalogs. Most web sites only show a few products per page and it takes a long time to find things even if you know what you want. I do prefer to order online especially if the site saves your favorites, previous orders or can check stock levels instantly.

We have a computer dedicated only to the online ASI search. It is very useful system. I don't sell the ASI things but they ASI sales people found it necessary to still keep about a half dozen file cabinets stuffed full of printed catalogs.
They contact the most used vendors and order new catalogs every year and they bring in help for several days to purge the old ones and refile the new ones.

Has anyone checked out the online buyer's guide? I logged on this AM to give it a shot (after reading up on it this weekend in my Recognition Review) but I couldn't get my password to work.

Haven't had a chance to figure out what the problem is yet.

Jeanette,

My regular password worked for me. Did you enter the leading zeros, or is that a dumb question? :/

Jeanette,

Do they have the database populated with products and suppliers yet? My first search was for acid etching. The search results brought up three suppliers, none of which offer acid etching. I did the first search for products, then a second search for suppliers. Hmmmmm?

I am sure that the ARA Buyer's Guide is a product that will grow and improve based on the advice of its users. With that being said, when clicking on an individual product, I do not like how the product images are distorted so they will fit within the dimensions of the image box. If I were a supplier, I would not like my product bein

And how is Terrell Owens working out for you? (devil)

He is a cancer I am glad we got rid of here in Philly.

Didn't mean to divert the thread, couldn't help myself. ;-)

Not a stupid question, I would have asked you the same thing if you told me yours didn't work. MUST not be stupid if I'd ask it! ;-)

Yes, I entered the leading zeros. No "try this" or "need help?" message -- just a "nope, your password doesn't work". Probably something simple that I'll figure out today. Maybe our "sales rep" status (as opposed to "retailer") has something to do with it.

I am not one of those who wanted Owens here. I think it was a mistake and I think we have more headaches ahead (unless Wade Phillips can figure out how to handle the guy).

We're talking football at the following (well, except that Cody keeps insisting on going "hockey" on us) thread ...

I've heard of T.O., but since I don't watch foosball, I really don't know who he is.

The most I've seen of him is on the deodorant commercial.

What's the problem with the guy?
