I'm trying to put a name inside a heart shape. How can I get the text to take the shape of the heart or any shape for that matter.
Thanks,
Tony

Select the text, go to effects menu and select powerclip. An arrow will appear which you should point to the heart. And you're finished.

When I Powerclip it just clips the text. I think what he means is that he wants the text to conform to the heart shape.

Occasionally I can get text to flow inside a shape, but usually it only wants to flow outside around the shape. (I have no idea how I got it to conform to the inside sometimes, but any alteration and it resets it to the outside.)

It would be great to be able to do something like a heart and put text into it and have it use the shape, (minus a margin), as a paragraph boundry.

The only other way I know of is to use the envelope tool.

I'm sure there are others.

Tony,

In Engravers Journal April 2007 (if you have it) there is an article showing how to do it. It is written by Mike Clarke.

When all else fails--------

OK, I opened the book. Instead of using the envelope tool at the left go to effects, envelope. That will open a docker with a lot of presets including a heart. These can be easily manipulated by moving the nodes.

I think that will solve his problem.

Mine is a bit different. I do not want to distort the text. I want the paragraph outline to be the shape of the object. Like the paragraph starts with a square outline, I want it to taper with the shape so the text flows.

This should do it.

To add text to a predefined shape
1. Click the Text tool .

2. Position the cursor inside the shape’s outline until it changes to a text cursor .

3. Type inside the shape, choose a font, and format the text.

It did not work, then it did. (Corel 9, have to try it with X3.)

When you go into the text mode, you get the text cross hair. If you touch the line you get an A with a curve under it. BUT go just inside the line and it changes to something inside a rectangle, BINGO that is the cursor that does it. (Just found out that by holding shift it changes to the inside thingy also.)

Thanks.

Is there a way to change the spacing to the edge or do I have to set up the curve to smaller than the area put in the text and then make the control curve outline clear?

This will be a mighty tool for some of the things I am currently doing. Thanks again.

Only guessing here but you may be able to do all you want with the usual text manipulation tools. You may have to change font size, use full justification or individual character kerning.

Harvey,

Use the Text to Path tool. You can do inside, ouside, centerline or move it where you want it.

Mike's advice got me to exactly where I needed to be. I just wish Gravostyle98 could do the same thing.

All text controls and node manipulation work exactly as expected. The only thing I could not find was the setting for the distance from the enclosure to the text. But who cares, it is a minor thing to manipulate the size of the container before hand.

Text to path is a totally different function. I wanted to draw the oddball shape of an award and have the text automatically stay away from the inside edges, which this does.
