Hi all - does anyone happen to have a chunk - that is a technical engravers term for about a 1/8th sheet - of IPI sm-215. This is from IPI's Stone group and is the Quicksilver Graphite/Nile Green. I actually don't care if it has a matte or gloss finish, if someone has enough for about 6, 1" x 3" nametags, that's enough for me.
I was going to order a 1/4 sheet from Ability, but I guess this color is marked special order only, and you have to order a sheet before they will order it, and then there is a shipping delay.
You can e-mail me directly at cindy@cascadeengraving.com if you have any you can sell me.
Thanks so much -
Cindy

If no one has the "chuck" - I noticed Johnson Plastics lists the gloss version as a stock item.

Here's where my buying ethics get in the way of my need. Unless something has changed in policy since I had a conversation with Margaret Johnson, Johnson Plastics sells to the general public at the same price they sell to me. I have a bit of a problem with that policy, so I have chosen to not use Johnson Plastics as one of my suppliers.
Thanks for the info, but I'll have to keep searching.

They have a custom engraving shop division and prior to Johnson, they were the Chicago distributor. Steve has help me out several time in the past. IPI's corporate office is also in the same building.

Mike - thanks for the tip. I have contacted Steve and we'll see where this goes from here. I finally substituted gold/green, but I'd love to call this client and tell her new nametags were ready for her in the color she choose originally. She'd be thrilled. Not that she didn't love the other tags, but the colors in the Quicksilver were a perfect match.
Thanks,
Cindy

Cindy,

Laminated Fabricators is no more, but I remember a conversation with someone from the company, where I was told of a very low minimum, in order to buy full sheets of a custom-color plastic sheet stock.

Maybe that's why they're not around any longer.

Do you, or anyone, know what the minimum number of full sheets would be to have a custom-run through Rowmark?

I used to use the Rowmark (.063) Midnight Granite/Grey material for an ongoing award program. I have enough to get by for a while, though, at some point I'll have to change material and I don't like the available options.

I've been told that the surface of the Midnight series was a foil, much like the metallic materials. They purchased this foil from a third party which went out of business. Currently they're looking for a replacement, but it still won't be exactly the same.

A shame too, since I'd just started a rather sizable hospital on midnight/white nameplates. Had to switch to IPI's charcoal.

Sei,

Thanks for the insight. Hopefully, such a popular surface (Midnight Granite) will re-emerge. As you say, there's nothing like it.

Hi David - I did a lot of business with Laminated - loved them and haven't found a comparible supplier yet since they closed down. They closed because the owner had a heart attack and he was older and finally decided to close the business after a lot of thought. It wasn't due to small mins, that's for sure. They were very good business people.
They gave me the name of another supplier that I won't name here, that they thought followed the same type of practices, but the knowledge base just wasn't there about materials. If I called Laminated and explained what I was trying to accomplish with a project, they then knew their material well enough to be able to recommend what would give me the results I was looking for. If they had nothing, they would tell me that. To me, their closing was a big loss of industry knowledge.
To my knowledge, based on what I've been told in the past, Romark and almost all the plastic suppliers have a 6 full sheet minimum for custom colors. Why they put certain colors on the color chart for us and our clients to choose from, and then we find out they are custom (like the one I'm looking for), is a mystery to me.
Got to get back to work - we're swamped!
Cindy
