I just wanted to share our product catalog with everyone, I really like this idea for advertising and sending out to customers and wanted to give others some good ideas too! I actually got my idea from Studio Workshop, so thanks to them! I've done these books for real estate, a summer celebration in my home town, a baby book and best of all my product catalog. So check it out! I've actually started offering these to customers as well.

Impressive. Would make a great website as a catalog.

Is the image size the reason the page generation is so long?

Makes the PDF reader look like 20 year old technology.

Harvey,

I just looked at it too; it is impressive.
I didn't have the slow page generation you mentioned.
I'm using a 2.8GHz P4 w/ HT and 1.5G RAM.

I do prefer acrobat though; it doesn't report back how much time I'm spending viewing each page.

Hmm I'm curious as to what you mean on the reporting of time spent on a page...... I don't know what you mean there, possibly it's doing this because it's the online version and I get charged for views I believe, our comercial used cds are sent to the customer and load much faster, the speed of the book, because it's online will depend on your internet speed. It appeals to me more because of the book idea, acrobat doesn't have things like that as far as I know, though I couldn't really say since I don't use Adobe software for anything.

I went to their website and read the privacy policy. They start off by saying how committed they are to protecting privacy, then go on to describe a policy that I don't consider very protective.

From that page:

"When you view a FlipBook, our server collects anonymous viewing information. Anonymous viewing information is data regarding the time spent viewing specific pages in the FlipBook, the order in which pages are viewed, the time of day pages are accessed, and IP addresses."

They also share any information collected with 3rd parties.
"... customer lists which we distribute to our advertisers and other third party marketers."

When I went to view your books, I had to download the viewer. It then gave the option to register. This means giving an email address for them to share. The initial download is an older version. You must give the email address to get the latest viewer. (I didn't)

I had an identical experience, except that as a user of Firefox, it took a little more maneuvering to achieve the same level of non-operation ;-) Neat idea, but I don't like having information passed on to anyone so I'll have to pass.

DSL 750Kbaud. The pages took about 8 seconds for th image to come in. The 2.5Meg viewer only took about 15 seconds to download. Maybe the server was busy.

Sorry all I should have warned you about downloading the viewer. Yes, I will admit that this company receives a big fat like 1 on a scale of 1-10 in my book. First of all their customer service is worthless, the fees for anything are outrageous, and there are no design options within the package, hence the way my book was done. If I had it all back to do over again I would have used a program from the website 3d, i believe their software is called picture something. I have seen work done from them by a fellow who's company is www.frogprintz.com and it's truly a very nice piece of software, many more options and not sketchy like like the flipbook, ebook systems is the creator. By alas I paid $120 for something I should have maybe paid $25 for, the 3d software runs at about $60 if I'm not mistaken and has so many more options. So I don't blame those of you who didn't like the software, and in order to place the book on my web page I have to buy yet another program that converts the book because of the way awkward format. So I just make due with what I have. Eventually when we start getting busier here I would like to purchase the new 3d. I think I could work more wonders, the wow effect needs to be like a major wow to attract the people in my neck of the woods ot our company.

Kate,

I didn't download the software plugin because of the personal info needed or risked as well.....I think you might want to reconsider that $60 bucks on 3D software that isn't so intrusive. I suspect you will get more business just because of that.

You never know...you may be losing 50% or more of potential buyers because of that little software issue. :)

I look forward to seeing your examples someday.

Thanks,

Brian G.

I didnt view or do anything cos it asked me if I wanted to install something. So I just passed on it - as would many others.
I don't quite see the advantage of this over a simple internet site?

Well, this isn't in place of a website, this is actually a product showcase I burn onto a disc that is readable in Mac and PC's. Then I mail it out to customers. There is no downloading of anything that way. The one posted on the internet is a just in case I lose my other one. And so I can show people like you all what I did for advertising.
I would like to reconsider that $60, but right now its just not feasible. When I say we don't have any money here right now we really don't. The half down we get from our customers is used to purchase the materials needed. And extra things are out of the question right now. Hopefully things will pick up for us, and I search every day for a part time job, which I'll be doing soon at a golf course. So maybe sooner than I hope I can get the 3d product, and I will post that once it's finished.
