Plaque help - Engraving Etc. Forum

Just had a customer drop off a perpectual plaque that they want me to match. I don't do many of these and can't find it in any of my suppliers catalogs. Specs:
Solid walnut, 13" x 20", 48 plates(4 col. of 12) with notched edges, centered 5" x 6" header plate. Now the catch......... All the plates are blue (close to the etc of the new EE logo) with gold borders. The header plate has two gold borders. Can anybody direct me to a supplier? I don't think it is to old as the their plaque just started with 2003 names. (The company that sold it has gone out of business so I can't call them.)

Zona, The blue you're looking for, is called "French Blue" by some manufacturers of laminated plastic engraving stock. Are the individual plates silkscreened? Does the header plate match the indiv. plates in color and manufacture? David "The Stunt Engraver" Lavaneri DGL Engraving Port Hueneme, CA

Yes, they all match, and the plates all engrave gold. The header plate doesn't have notched corners but otherwise it matches.

I use a similar blue/brass, (laser and regular), from Main Trophy.

I laser the borders when I need to. I also cut and notch the plates as necessary.

That is an unusual dimension. We use a lot of that size in faux finish. The only place I know that carry that size of plaque is blueridge. They also have a genuine walnut in that size. http://www.blueridgewoodcrafts.com/hardwood_plaqs.htm The bad news is they didn't have any assembled perpetual plaques on their website. Someone may have gotten the board there and assembled it with die cut plates or fabricated their own. We do it in all kinds of colors all the time. If you can post a pic I may be able to help identify the metal. Victory and Id plates have some solid blue colored brass or laser steel. Tropar has a lot of diecut plates with gold borders. I have seen a blue marble but don't remember seeing a solid blue. The border may have been lasered or burnished. We laser cut templates from scrap plastic or posterboard as a guide to place the individual plates on the plaque straight. lj http://logojohn.webhop.net/

It's been many moons since I've seen that plate color combination. I'm not sure, but the plates may have originally come from Simba Cal.

If you have a laser, just burn a tiny spiral with the outer dimension needed for the screw pilot hole.

When I was making employee of the year plaques I did this. Memory says it took under 1 minute for the plaque and it had perfect alignment and pilot holes.

Zona,

I had a plaque like that last year. If you need just the plates, I could not find the metal plates like that either, I ended up getting some from Asays. I think I have only 1 or 2 left. You might try them or ask them where to get them.

I thought they were odd too. I searched many places but couldn't find them in gold and that off blue color that also had notches.

This plate was by Pride which closed and now Asay's has closed too. I'll email you private.

I ran across a similar issue recently and ended up steering the customer to a new "model" so to speak. They were very happy with the results and asked to have the old plaque replaced to match the new.

Just a thought. Throw out all options you never know, they may be looking for a change.
