Getting Trophies ready for pickup? - Engraving Etc. Forum

How should I package trophies for pickup? I have my first order for 85 so I need to know how you guys and girls get them ready to go out the door! Do you have boxes with dividers in it or do you wrap the trophies in paper and use a open box? Thank's Kevin

G'morning Kevin..

We go to our local grocery store and get their banana boxes (Sometimes if you are lucky you get a free banana) .. they are fairly big, and you can fit quite a few trophies in them.. We just line our trophies up, and place paper between the rows.

Never had any complaints so far!

I have a deal with a local plant nursery. 10 flat boxes for 1 name tag. Barter..... you can get 15-20 trophies in a box....that's one team or so. I use mable bases so I put the trophy in a cheap ( 500 for 4$) sandwich bag to keep the trophies from rubbing against each other + the parent can see the name plates without "Unwrapping" the items.

Hi Gang;

We wrap each award in tissue, then place in box..our competition just puts them in the box without wrapping anything around them to protect them. For the cost of tissue paper, (which we build into our price) I believe the percieved value is dramatically raised. I also believe it shows to the end user that we take pride in what we do. Just a thought.

I completely understand what you are saying.. we USED to wrap all our awards in tissue as well..

But when it's April & May.. and all the school orders are trying to go out.. it's impossible to wrap each award.

Not to mention, when we deliver the awards to a school, the coach has to "unwrap" each trophy to see where/who they go to.

We have clear bags that we use for our trophies and plaques during that time.. that way, people can read through the plastic instead of taking them out..

We use our foam pouches for our high-end awards.

I haven't heard or seen clear wrapping on trophies... however I can def. see the benefit.....really I wasn't knocking the idea...just explaining what we do...so do you use like baggies or what exactly is the device.

We put the trophies back to back with a sheet of paper between them so that the plates don't touch. Haven't had a complaint yet.

We use the JDS Window boxes for our plaques or for the customers unwilling to aprove the added cost of the boxes we will shrink wrap the plaques. The shrink wrap material can also be made into a bag similar to those that the people marketing the gift baskets use that trophies can be placed into you just need to get the feel of how tightly to shrink the film. Shrink wrap bags are also available, but we have our own equipment and use the film in that comes in a roll and cut it to the length needed. Berger Novelties & Awards Rochelle, IL. 61068

We buy poly bags from JDS and use them for trophies. The 7x9 works for many bases. Your only really trying to protect the plate from scratching. A clear bag is good for customers trying to ID the trophies. For tall trophies, we stiuff newspaper around the tops to keep them from banging together in transit. For boxes, I used to make my rounds around grocery stores - I too have used banana boxes - and liquor stores and then it dawned on me that it wasn't a very professional-looking way of doing it so I now buy cardboard boxes from Uline.com. 13x13 bottom is a good size - and whatever the height needs to be (10" or 13" works well). I print labels with customers name and any other details of the order and then hand-write the quantity that is inside the box. Also on the label is our information. I figure any extra advertising is always good.

We also use Uline for our boxes and also the shrink wrap. We don't reuse boxes from our incoming shipments as I also feel that it is not professional looking and some of the freight companies are not honoring a damage claims when the boxes have been used previously. Some of them are really beatup when they arrive and I sometimes wonder how they made it here. Uline has a good assortment of tall boxes that are made for packing furniture such as floor lamps and these work great for those TALL trophies. We used to use vinyl application tape to protect the engraving plates but our customers like the clear shrink wrap in that they can see the engraving and that we are taking the effort to protect their awards from getting scratched. We also reuse the styrofoam packing material that we get from the incoming shipments. It's alot cheaper than buying it and helps us get rid of it. We place a packing sheet in a windowed pouch on the outside of the box that identifies the contents. (UPS supplies adhesive pouches for use with plain paper shipping documents.)
