I just finished a display (promotional) piece for my own company, trying to demonstrate several capabilities in one piece. I glued cast acrylic to pockets in a piece of walnut, using ProBond polyurethane (same as Gorilla Glue). It seems to be holding really well. May be worth a try for you.
The Elmers ProBone seems to be the same as Gorilla brand, just a lot cheaper.

I don't think clear tape would be strong enough.

Their bases have a deep groove which will hide anything you use.

I use the very strong tape we use for plaque assembly.

It is referred to as super stick by several suppliers.

I use a width slightly wider than the thickness of the acrylic and let it wrap around a little at the front to adhere a little more to the side of the groove. It is faster than glue and I haven't had any come back after several years.
