This a quote from an eBay auction item.

quote:
You can engrave everything

Comes with Foil transfer system.......

The Foil Transfer System allows you to foil directly onto your products, thus eliminating the need for cutting, filling and mounting. No messy hot stamp equipment or expensive dies. Foils easily onto most wood, leather, vinyl, acrylic, laminated papers and plastic products allowing you to create multi-color or color-on-color logos and designs in minutes.

Signature uses their 8080 Plus computerized mechanical engraver to achieve a foil hot stamp look. Has anyone seen how this look is achieved? I assume it is something that can be achieved with any computerized mechanical engraving machine.

David,

My guess is something along the lines of a "pen writer," where the diamond graver is replaced with a gold or silver marker.

Looks pretty nice, from the picture.

There is a foil that looks like the one used in hot foil printing, however the difference is, when laid on a sheet of paper that has been laser printed (black) and fed through a laminator that can reach required temp. the foil adheres to the laser toner on the paper. This is used for letterheads, invitations. certificates etc. There is also a special paper which after the foil has been applied can be used as a transfer for items such as the one you posted. Not seen this for a while so not sure if still available.

Here is what I understand, and know that my understanding may be only partial.
The Signature system is composed of a set of hot impact print heads, which will follow regular computer entered engraving text, or vector art logos, set up in their proprietory
system and is attached to their engraving machines. I inquired about converting my old
Signature 8000, and got a vague responce about a year and a half ago with a figure in the
$12,000 area, and they were more reluctant than responsive, In my opinion, and experience, This Co. seems to be only interested in selling machines, collecting warranty fees, and apparently does not need to be responsive or supportive to old customers. "Saint Brewer" they aint.
