I engraved some acrylic stars today,
The first one I did, I brought the logo in as a bitmap, created the text and sent it to the laser and engraved. When I brought the logo in, the white box around it was actually 254 white instead of 255. I had shading around the logo shaped like the square box. I felt sure the acrylic was ruined. I took it to a local acrylic dealer here, they tried to polish it out with Novus polish. No luck. They told me to get some 1500 grit wet or dry sand paper and sand it. I figured that at that point I had nothing to lose so I did. Worked like a charm. I put the sand paper on a sanding block and sanded under running water. When I finished sanding it had just a slight haze, that polished out quite easily with the Novus 2 polish.

That was my first try at re-polishing acrylic, it turned out to be quite easy.

I use a polishing compound that is a bit coarser than Novis but finer than 150 grit. It is called Brasso. :O

If it leaves any slight buff, rarely unless you really have a long go at it, I then use Novis 2 for the final polish.

I have been using it on acrylic for over 20 years.

Philadelphia, PA (Really Bensalem)

When you finally understand it completely... it changes.

Wow. The last I dealt with Brasso was in the Army polishing brass. It would never have occurred to me to use it on Acrylic. Thanks for the tip!
