We had epson printer problem with our 1280 giving us multiple ghost images.
and what looked like an ink smear in a color test to the right of each color block.
Called the Epson service people at Compass Micro in Portland Ore. They listened
to me, asked a few pointed questions, and had me clean both sides of the clear plastic strip
held by a spring. The stip is nearly invisible and located above the yellow traction
drive belt that moves the print head and ink cartridge carrier along the print path from
right to left. I had a hard time even seeing it when I started to look for it, but the spring
holding it from the left end was the clue. Using two Q tips soaked in alcohol, one on each
side of the tape, which picked up very little discoloration, I just wiped it left to right and
back once. Turned on the printer ran a test job, and it was perfect. We had spent many
hours and multiple phone calls to other techs, run multiple head adjustment tests, color
tests, and wasteful head cleanings to no avail. These are real experts. Check their
