Phil, In another thread, you asked about posting a graphic in your signature. Here are the basic guidelines, as listed on our start page: Animated signatures are not allowed. Graphics need to be limited to 45 pixels tall by about 400 pixels wide. Of course text can be used in addition as long as it is not a book. =================================================== Harvey recently provided these instructions, to someone else asking about how to add an image to their signature: To place a picture, (actually the picture not a link), in your post you must have a web site that contains the image. Then you enable HTML at the bottom of the posting form and insert a link such as this code: <img src="http://www.accentonengraving.com/accentlogo.jpg" border="0" /> Do a preview just to be sure it is correct. the address to the logo image is sandwiched between the HTML code (a href) to make a link.

Unfortunately there is a problem on my server that has all of the other content, other than the page you pointed to, not working on my site. It is being worked on but is taking sooooo loooong.

We got it right today. Logged on to the forum for the server and finally found the area for this type of question. They changed the settings on the server so new code had to be added. It was just like here, I had two answers that were correct within ten minutes.

Hi Harvey ... just finally figured out the problem. I had to change the defaulted (I believe) link in the 'my controls' to uncheck the 'show links in signature' item. Everything is showing fine now.

If it works, it works. Got it! If you show the LINKS you do not show the image only the link. Sort of counter-intuitive wording even though correct. It should say 'show only links in signature'. Philadelphia, PA (Really Bensalem) When you finally understand it completely... it changes.

Thanks for the Info - looks like my logo is too big, and to be honest, I don't know how to make it smaller and then give it a link address, bit out of my league i think.

David; You can get it off Trophyman's website: Trophyman website. My reason for posting is to ask why the dimensions (60 x 400?) are what they are? Is it a bandwidth issue? Trophyman's trophyman (which I'm assuming is what they would like to use) is tall and narrow. If you resize it to meet the 60 height limitation, it probably won't be recognizable. Should the limitation be set to 24,000 pixels (ie 60 x 400 or 400 x 60 or whatever combination you choose)? Just curious. Carl Guntersville Laser Engraving Guntersville, AL

One problem with tall images in a sig is that it makes every post by that person fairly tall, even if they only post 3 words. That means readers have to scroll a lot more to read a thread. (yeah, that's minor, but it is the reason a lot of forums don't allow images in sigs, or at least tall ones)

Dave jones hit it correctly. It is the size in vertical space that I find annoying even if it is not a billboard type signature. The size was set up for what felt comfortable to us at the time. There is always a possibility of a special case, but I do not think the specs will change much. That is my personal opinion, David may disagree.

The front page states 45 tall by up to 400 wide.

Mine is 44 x 240. There is one being used that if 52 tall, but is ignored because it would probably lose a lot by losing those few pixels, the fine lettering would become a blob.

Carl, We just didn't want images in signatures to be too obtrusive, or distracting, in the posts. The same reason we don't allow animated signatures. As Harvey said, we will entertain special exceptions but the exisitng pixel dimensions provide a good baseline for what we'd like to see. Harvey; Interesting. If I 'view' your signature image, Firefox reports it being 55 x 300, as does PhotoPaint, with a resolution of 96 dpi. If I resample it to 72 dpi (normal screen resolution?), it is then 41 x 225. Does the forum software automagically convert the images to 72 dpi (or something else)? Or is it possibly a function of my screen resolution? Gee, mine is 100 x 52 (tall), at 96 dpi anyway. It's less than that at 72 dpi. I guess I'll need to change my logo. Thanks for the information. Firefox reports the same dimensions under Properties, but when you view it in a new TAB (or Window), it shows the image at the full size without the HTML imposed limitation. Harvey, do you realize that your sig logo would look better if you resized it in a paint program and upload that instead of having the browsers resize it? Browsers simply drop pixels, so resizing a small amount in a browser gives a coarse looking image. Plus it would be a bit crisper as a GIF.
