I realize I am opening myself up for a lot of snappy answers to that title.....fill with the beverage of your choice and enjoy.

What I am talking about are the advertising mugs found in restaurants. I am on vacation in Florida right now and we went out to breakfast. There were mugs at each spot that had local business logos on them. There were several on each mug...kind of like the placemats that advertise.

There is nothing like this in my area. So my question is, how does one go about starting something like this. Approach local restaurants to see if they are interested in receiving free mugs? Then approach businesses for advertising? I would think you could sell the advertising better if you could say that the mugs would be in XYZ restaurant.

I would really like to get into this but am just not sure how to do it. Is it even worth it? Has anyone else tried this?

I tried getting on DSSI to get the answer but my spyware blocker won't let me (?) for some reason.

It says that the address for DSSI is categorized as spyware. I know I could get around it but it's my dh's laptop and really don't want to mess around on it.

You are on the right track. You contact the restaurant to see if they would be interested in getting free coffee mugs. You then estimate the number of restaurants that will commit to your program, then estimate the number of advertising views you will get per restaurant. You now have a commodity to sell to potential advertisers.

Once you get the advertising commitments, you send off your order to have the mugs screen printed, then deliver them to the restaurants.

Using your products as an advertising tool is an effective approach to selling your products.

I have a supplier who makes simple foam airplanes that every kid loves to play with. I figured out what the most important message was that we would want to get to the children in our community. I then located a major sponsor to pay for the airplanes, had the message imprinted, along with the sponsors logo, and had the planes distributed throughout the city. This is an easy way to sell 5,000 planes and develop a win-win-win-win situation.

Harvey, I had no problem with the link to dssi from Links of interest. I'm using firefox, not that Micky soft explorer from Mr. Gates if that matters.

It probably matters. But why DSSI has been rated that way and we escaped, is a puzzle.

This software is native friendly and unless altered by someone who made a mistake should not be categorized that way.

I understand that what is, is. I'm just trying to make some sense of it, probably never will.

If you tell the software to save your password, a cookie is installed, but it is only a log on cookie, nothing more.

This might be a corny idea, but most of mine are or I would be rich by now.
Bear with me, it does have to do with mugs.

Remember those yellow magnetic ribbons on cars. They are slowly disappearing since they do make the paint a different shade over time and are running their course like a lot of fads.

I had thought about doing custom ones with sublimation maget sheets with the soldiers picture in the center and that still might be a workable idea.

Now the twist. I had thought about doing the yellow ribbon graphic with a picture on a more practical item . . . such as a sublimatable mug for family and friends. I thought it might be an add on item in the showroom but it is still on the things to do list if I ever have time so I don't know if they would sell.

This thread gave me another idea. What unpatriotic restaurant wouldn't accept free mugs with a yellow ribbon and photo of a local hero serving their country and a tasteful ad on the other? Or even just sell them outright to the restaurant if they didn't want the advertising. I think it would also be easier to sign up advertisers with that concept.

You could even put a small line that says if you would like your active duty relatives picture on the mugs, to send the picture to your email address. You might get more orders from that.

I would guess most people would be proud to have their servicepersons picture out there as a public tribute but I would obviously get permission first.

I'm not sure, but I think that the creator of the "ribbon graphic" was reinforcing their rights about his design, lately.
Should be a good idea to check this out.
