I don't do ribbons, and have never purchased ribbons , but wouldn't you know it a very good customer has a request for a custom ribbon. I prefer not to send them to other engraving shops for this :)

So my question is do you purchase flat ribbon and have a machine that makes it into a rosette shape? Does anybody know a website/article that I could learn more about this (i.e. what ribbon works).

Thanks in advance.

Will they use your own ribbon? To bad they aren't in Topeka, Kansas :)

Zona,

I have always had them supply the ribbon material. You will need to give them a call on Monday.

I also use Tower Ribbons to purchase custom and stock ribbons.
They are very helpful and friendly.
Good company to deal with.

Hi Zona,

I am in Wichita and do my own ribbons.

1. You can buy flat ribbon and pleat it yourself, if you have a ribbon pleater. I do have an old ribbon pleater but I buy all my pleated ribbon from the manufacturer already pleated because it takes time and 8 yds of flat ribbon to make 1 yard of pleated ribbon - Quicker, easier & cheaper for them to do it.

2. I learned mostly on my own, I don't know of a website to teach.

3. If you gave me specifics of the job, I could give you a quote.

John,

I have a customer that I have supplied ribbons to for three years. This past year they went with an internet company that does them in-house. Doing your ribbons in-house, you may be more competitive than I could be. Do you have the capabilities to do a simple pinked ribbon in a quantity of about 2,000? I realize that some shops are more automated than others on this type of volume work, therefor being able to offer a lower price.

If they decide to go the same route next year, I will give you the bid information. If I don't have a realistic chance of getting the job, I would at least like to see someone here get it.

David,

Yes, I can do the volume work on the flat pinked ribbons you mentioned.
I do wholesale to a few customers but I generally charge the same as any other ASI ribbon mfg. except I don't nickle & dime to death as they do for the extras.

We have used F&H Ribbon in Hurst Tx for decades. Very fast and rarely a problem. They have stock ribbons and certificates and custom ones at reasonable prices with low minimums.

John,

This is the same organization that knocks at my door several times a year for donations. By the time their event rolls around next year, they will recognize that we are on a two-way street. Then we will see how things proceed.

I will also keep you in mind for other jobs, at least the ones that will be worth your while.

Thanks!
