Ok... In need of help.. attached are two photos one of the product it's a 7x9" beveled glass blank mounted with studs suspending the glass above the back plate or plaque.. the customer gave me a photo of the finished product and needs it duplicated.. the text is on the glass and it looks to be paint filled.. the text looks dark grey to me.. but i dont know if sand blasting would make black paint look a bit grey... I have the artwork and the text.. can anyone do this for me..

As you probably already know, when you blast glass it leaves it white. It will lighten up black paint making it appear a light gray. Make sure you use a laquer based spray paint (I get mine at the local auto parts store). Don't use enamel. It will peel right out if the carving. Let it dry completely. Use cold water to remove the mask, not hot.

It's probably a good idea to try the process on a cheap 3 x 5 bevel. Your photo looks like one of those pricey Visions awards.

Thanks for replying.. I have two plaques only.. give to me by the customer. I dont know if I could get more.. maybe you recognize it.. but.. yes i am looking for someone to blast it.. can you help

Bill, That is a piece that is available from Visions Awards. It is available in several sizes. You can order blank product or have them do the etching for you. Below is part of the product description from their website. quote: A multi-step process beginning with natural shells has been utilized to achieve the opulent golden tones of the Indulgence. A brilliant sheen of subtle metallic stripes formulates the luxurious appeal of the Bronze Luxury. Each plaque can either set or hang to adorn any environment. If the etching was done on the back side if the glass, then paint-filled, it can take on a dark grey tone from the frosting being in front of the paint.

It may be a better idea to have Bill do the carving for you. Visions has a pretty hefty set-up charge. Bill will do a high-quality job for you.

We do this all the time. We use a specialty stain for glass. The black comes out jet black.
