Does anyone on this forum use Engravelab?

Just wondering, as have yet another learning curve item, and it has to do with sweep selecting and applying a fill path.

If I select two objects, say the outside of the letter 0 and the inside of the letter 0 (see attached) via the sweep method (hold down the left mouse button and sweep across and select the 2 elements) and then I combine them and apply a fill path, it creates a fill path ignoring the hole in the middle I need.

But, If I were to select the 2 objects (the outside of the letter 0 and the inside) each, one at a time, by holding the CTRL button, and then clicking on each object individually, and then combine them (connect paths) and create a fill path, it leaves the hole in the middle of the 0, like it's supposed to.

I don't get it.. what's the difference? why can't I sweep and select multiple objects and then have it leave the hole?

Knowing nothing about Engravelab.............. is it possible that you have more than 2 objects there????? One ore more objects may be hiding which would cause the unexpected results.... just a guess but the same thing happens to me in Xenetech when I am hatch filling.

No.. there are exactly two objects. It just does this wierd thing when I'm dragging to select rather than selecting an individual one.

Must be a "feature". I have an email in at Cadlink.

I don't know that program, but is it possible that the order of selection matters? And if so, the direction of sweep might affect the order. The order might depend on what is swept over first, or maybe what was swept over last (meaning that maybe if you stop the sweep when reaching the center of the "O" you get a different result from sweeping past the center and back onto the main part).

Just a wild guess. I really don't know.

Its late and I dont have engrave lab on my home computer if you email me in the morning or call me at 215-887-8986 I will walk you thru it.. but you have to make a path to have it make an order to fill the areas you want..

Bill, thanks for the offer... I'm unable to get at the computer with Engravelab for a few days.

However, the issue with this is select the objects by SWEEP (hold down the left mouse button and draw a square around the objects to select)or when I cut and paste from Corel Draw... it just doesn't want to fill the paths properly.

The answer is in this particular case the "o" is just 2 circles and not an actual font. Most likely an imported file or a trace. In any case, you have found the answer, connecting the path is the right way to go.
