I have recently acquired several New Hermes engravers. I have a Vanguard 9200, (2) 8000's and a 3200.

The 3200 came with the EP controller and the others did not. The 9200 came with a cable to connect to the EP Controller. One came in with the Gravostyle 98 disk and manual but unfortunately no dongle to use it.

Looking in the manual for the EP controller it states that you can use a DOS copy command to copy a HPGL file to the engraver.

I created a HPGL file using CorelDraw and copied to the EP Controller using the parallel port. I received the message "Value to Large".

I would like to test all of the engravers prior to spending money purchasing expensive engraving software.

Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Tim

Tim,

Hopefully, someone knowledgeable of your equipment, will provide an answer.

You could also try calling Fred Schwartz, of Quality One Engravers, who is very familiar with New Hermes/Gravograph equipment.

My opinion is that Fred Swartz is the most knowledgable person concerning New Hermes machines.....even better than the company (nothing against the company intended)

The max value is determined by the table, vague memory that it is 1000 per inch. Negative numbers are forbidden.

The PLT file might control the Z up and down commands but not the depth of cut and the lift over the material. It is a specialized PLT format that they use.

Getting the software is useless without the dongle. The dongle will cost probably over $3000.

I am unfamiliar with the 9200 and 8000.

When you finally understand it completely... it changes.
