Would anyone have any experience of this 2448 machine.
I am considering buying one but would like to know if they precise when engraving 3mm high text one minute and when the head is changed to a router happy carving a 24 x 48 sign.
Look forward to any advice on this machine or any other in this league.

Greetings Sham,

Ask Vision to send you engraved and routed samples and tell them what you would like to see such as the 3mm text etc...

I have a smaller Vision engraver than what you are looking at. It is just an engraver not a router and engraver. It does do nice engraving.

I've worked on a Vision 1624 and while I wouldn't call the letter quality as fine as on a Gravograph/New Hermes or Newing-Hall machine, Vision equipment is very sturdy and capable of what you're asking.

we have a 24/24 engraver, Very sturdy ,quiet, and engraves magnificently, we are satisfied with its performance and quality above our newing hall. It is a much more robust machine than the newing hall imo.

Sham if you are going that size, why wouldnt you go all the way with a tekcel or multicam.

You get full sheet size 8x4' routing ability.

ask Rodney Gold about his tekcel and he will give you the full run down.

I am just thinking of extending the engraving capabilities but not going the whole hog into routing.
Peter the 24 x 24 machine you have is probably just a smaller version of the 2448 with all the componets the same apart from the bed. Its good that you find it sturdy and very serviceable, how long have you had the machine and has it given any bother in this time. What software do you use and do you find the small single line fonts good for small labels etc.

essentially the same machine as a 2448, we have only had ours for a few months and the boys in the workshop are only just beginning to swing into using it.
The software is engravelab ( Vision pro) same as signlab, it seems a good package, The lads have said there arent all that many engraving fonts available in it , however.
Remember it is only version 5 and that is 5 years or so old.
Our controller is the series 2 we hope to upgrade to latest controller when we can.

I dont know what software is commonly available with multicam. When i did that kind ofl work i used Alphacam, It is a full 3d cad/cam software. When i did engraving i used Xenetech for the layout and imported it in Alphacam and it was pretty much flawless. I believe the multicam machine we used was a MT series 24 x 20 with a 3 hp spindle. The table was 1" thick phenolic with specially cut T_slots. It was a very good machine.

If the letter quality on the Vision is not as fine as the Gravograph/New Hermes and the Newing Hall machine. What makes them better, is it the hardware, software or both?

What I've seen of large, curvy lettering from machines like Dahlgren, which the Vision fonts seem to be derived from, the lines aren't as smooth.

Much more like a bunch of straight lines connected, rather than a smooth continuous line.

Don't know if that's from the original digitizing of the letters, or a result of some kind of fractal adjustment through the software.

Not saying Vision fonts look bad, just not as smooth, at larger sizes, as the lettering from the other two manufacturers I mentioned.

Dahlgren did not have real curve or circle routines. They had a very limited table size to begin with and did not need them. They had a circle table that was made up of straight lines, very fine. The table was read and adjusted for different sizes.

Most other machines use curve generating routines.

Let the equipment do the talkin'. You won't find anything at the show that is built for battle like the Q1 machines.
