Hi Gang, Just wanted to share an original. This is for the Four Seasons Resorts Lanai, "Tiki Challenge" employee tennis tournament. It is made from a hand carved tiki from the phillipines, a pet urn for the base and 20 alumamark plates. I would be interested in finding out what you might charge for this also. I'll post what I charged later. Comments, both good and bad are welcome. Thanks

David, The applique is walnut wood thins from Studio Workshop. It has been so long since I bought the tiki's that I do not remember for certain, but I believe the Tiki was about $6.00 maybe $10

Chuck, My critque of the award would be to have the individual plates on the front of the award. The racquets could stay where they are and the pineapple(s) could be mounted to both sides of the award. Plates mounted on the side (or back) of perpetual awards are common, but that space is usually reserved for use, after the front panel is full. Not saying that you have to follow traditional protocol. :-) Are you including the price of engraving all the individual plates, or is that a separate sale, as they're eventually engraved? To the question you DID NOT ask......yes, there IS a strong resemblance. :O) As for price...... I would consider that this has a heightened perceived value. When we do perpetual awards, our price includes the header plate and first "perpetual" plate engraving. On this basis, combined with your wood trim and mounting of plates labor, MY price would be at least $185; maybe more. As for critical review, I would have reserved the space on the Tiki for "CHAMPION". I would have nixed the pineapple, left the racquets and laser engraved the "Header" text into the urn in place of the pineapple. Of course, this assumes that there is no direct relationship between the tournament and the pineapple (like sponsored by Dole) and, also, that the laser would produce good contrast on the urn wood material. Ed, I see what you mean about the racquets, however the pineapple was a request because Lanai ( lah nye) used to be known as the pineapple isle, because of the presence of Dole Pineapple, which eventually became Lanai company, which became Castle and Cook, which turned over management of the hotels to 4 seasons.

Chuck - you always have the option of filling the other 3 sides with plates - charge more - and have them average the cost over the number of years they would have to fill those plates! By filling the other sides with plates you then bring the focus back to the front.

I would like to know where you got that urn - It looks nice in the photos - a lot larger than most pet urns I have seen.

If you need the Tiki's let me know I have a family member who carves them in Hawaii.

They may not be exactly what is pictured but are very close.

Chuck,

I only mentioned having the individual plates on the front of the award, in case it becomes one-of-many, in a display case.

In that event, viewing the side plates would become difficult.

Very unique concept...very well executed.
