Not sure if this CorelDraw topic appropriate, but maybe there is a plug-in for this?

Looking software that would automate or at least simplify label making.
I do TONS of labels (on LaserMaxx) all of various sizes, from 3/4" x 2" up to 4" x 6". Mostly 1" x 3".
I get the orders in Excel spreadsheets, sometimes 100's (300+) of labels at a time, most different text and numbers for each label.

I manually layout my rectangles (labels) in Corel, then copy and paste each individual label text from the Excel spreadsheet into Corel and then have to center and align each set of pasted text inside the label rectangle. Very time consuming and -- a pain in the a$$!

I read somewhere a long time ago that there was software that would take the data and auto-populate the rectangles or fields.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks!

-Mike

You can do it in Corel. Check out Roy Brewer's tutorials on Main page.

Mike,

You can try bartender.

This software works pretty good.

You can get a free download from here although I don't think you can print from this copy.

Take a look in the Coreldraw Macros folder here. There was one posted for taking spreadsheet data and making name tags, or something like that.

Also contact Shaddy on this forum. He has started a pretty comprehensive nametag generator. This isn't a direct link to the macro, but it will take you to his website: http://www.shaddysengraving.com

There's also a CorelDraw add-in but the name escapes me. It's also fairly pricey at $400 or $500.

Here's the full link.

I got a little out of my league with this one... too many "features" for my little brain to keep track of, plus I got busier with my other job. I haven't done much on it lately.

The undo is buggy, so save often. The "Create Name Tag" is mainly for me, it's not all that adjustable. Mainly, the Rename Text Shapes, Duplicate, and Import Data are used.

I tried being descriptive on the webpage, a tutorial, but I not write good. Email me and I'll try and help you out as the holidays allow.

Shaddy;

{EDIT: Forget it. I think I found it: Namedropper}

Do you remember the name of the commercial product that is an add-in for CorelDraw that will create name tags? I tried searching for it, but I couldn't find it. I thought it was even on the forum in one of the VBA posts, but I couldn't find it there either.

Mike;

Here's one solution, but I don't know how good of one:

http://www.smartdesigns.com/html/software/ndx.htm

It's out of my price range at $399...

LaserMike,

EngravePro($499), Namedrop Express($399) and Xenetech GW($799) are all terrific programs; it sounds like you have the quantities to justify. But Corel will take a tab delimited list of variables straight from Excel and populate an unlimited quantity of nametags with an unlimted number of variables. And, it's fast & free! But youh nay utter bad words a bit till you get the feel of it.

I remember something similar, but I also can't find it. It was probably in a semi-related thread, so it's hard to search for.

Thanks all for the info. I need to put the nose to the grindstone and find a solution that works best (for my application)

I have heard from here and other people (not in this forum) that Engravepro was the way to go.

I'll have to give Shaddys application a close study as well.

Right after I go through Roy Brewers site and tutorials.

As well as the handfull of scripts/macros that I have been given to try.

...right after I finish Christmas shopping! 8-O

Thanks again all for your help.

Now, I have a real important post to get to in the "You're toast, buddy" thread. :P

-Mike
