I have a customer that came to me with a project to cut polycarbonate and i can't do it on my laser. A friend of mine has an older NH Vanguard 9000 and it looks like he can do the project.

Here is the question, can an ai file or any other vector file be converted to the file format that it uses rather than rebuilding the file? I think it is an .EJO file.

Would the size need to be enlarged to compensate for the bit cutting? it needs to be precise.

You can email me and i will send you the file in the vector format that you need.

Russ,

I believe a plt file can be used to profile the piece, and yes, there would need to be compensation for cutter width.

Hi,

If the old NH9000 is operating the Opensys software you will need to have your cutout converted to .lgo format. This can be done by the old HPGL conversion software or Casmate Pro (Newhermes format). The eps file can be imported into Casmate then exported as .lgo file.
You should have the .lgo file in the fonts directory so that the opensys software can find it.
If the NH9000 is running on Casmate then you are ready to go, import the file, size it, allow for the tool and away you go.
As mentioned by David you will have to allow an offset for the cutter you will be using. Be careful with cutting out polycarbonate, it does heat up very quickly when using an endmill cutter. Is the substrate thick?

Regards,
Glenn

Just as I was looking at the replies my friend dropped in to see how things were going. He said he is running Opensys and that he does not have the software to make the conversion. Can I send you a file and you convert it for us? What file format do you need? It looks like an EPS is what you want?

The poly is 1/4" and Shawn said that he would do several passes only taking a small depth each time rather than trying to do it all at once.

Russ,

Below the white box where you are composing your e-mail text, there is a button that says attachment. Click on this, then a new box will come up that allows you to browse your computer for the files you want to attach. Once you have the file(s) attached, click on the "Complete" button at the top. I hope this helps.

David,

I think Russ is referring to an email sent through a member's profile. I don't see an attachment option there.

I thought I clicked on e-mail in your profile and I actually clicked private message. :-$ You are correct, there is no way to send an attachment via the forum e-mail.

If you use Skype, you can transfer the files to Harvey that way. His Skype screenname is in his profile.
