I just received an 8x10 slate plaque from Herman’s Engraving. I decided I needed to do up a sample. Here's how it turned out. I would appreciate any comments.

Cody,
Yes. I received the slate from Dave at Herman Engraving. He owns a slate quarry and has started making these slate plaques in just about any sizes. He puts a clear coat on one side and when you engrave it...well you can see the results. I added a double name plate to add a little color, but of course the entire thing could be engraved and looked good.

Thanks for the feedback.

Mike,

Very nice!

From what you've said, the white engraving is accomplished without a color-fill. Is that so?

If Dave's interested in selling his slate plaques to the A&E industry, tell him he has a captive audience at EE. :-)

Is the engraving really that bright white in person? Or is it brighter in the photo because of the flash? (that happens to me with black anodized aluminum which looks light gray but photographs white)

It looks really nice.

Any idea what exactly he sprays them with?

Hey guys,
I just placed an order with Dave for some more of these slate plaques. I showed this one around at the office and everyone loved it.

The contrast you guys are seeing is straight off of the engraving, no paint fill. It's more of a grey than white, but it's really bright...the flash really didn't do anything. According to Dave you can paint fill, but I haven't tried it yet.

Here's Dave's info. I just talked to him and he gave me permission to post it. Please let him know that I referred you to him.
