As with most software programs, there are pros and cons for both.
Having learned XGW several years after using CorelDRAW, I personally find Xenetech much faster and more logical for the engraving process. I find CorelDRAW more logical for the engraving process than EngraveLab.
EngraveLab, however, is much more a "standard" windows application with modern editable/movable toolbars and fairly standard hot keys. EngraveLabs greatest claim to fame is its ability to run just about anything: wide format printers, lasers, engraving machines, routers, plotters, vinyl lettering machines, etc. People who get familiar with it can grow their business and any direction their markets lead them.
EngraveLab, however, cannot open a Xenetech file nor can Xenetech open a EngraveLab file. One can, however, import/export graphics back an forth, but impractical to attempt entire layouts.
Possibly the best news is that it is not necessarily one or the other; that is, the two programs work along side each other so use XGW for your old jobs and EngraveLab for your new jobs.
Xenetech's EngraveLab driver is the same that allows CorelDRAW to run the Viper. Don't get too excited here, however, Corel really doesn't do a very efficient job of outputting to an engraving machine (read that as "very slow" production).
